Physical description:
Hair: Short and a salt-and-pepper color with very little
black, mostly dark and light grays
Eyes: Blue
Height: 5'8
Clothing: Is wearing jeans and a T-shirt, and socks. Usually
not shoes, but if he's wearing them they're unlaced, unless Christa
laced them for him.
Accessories: None
Ethnicity: His mother and father were of predominantly Spanish
and Irish descent, respectively, but he's a mutt with rather pale
skin.
Longer physical description: Clayton used to be a rather good-looking
and strong young man, but thanks to the labs he's just about covered
in scars, mostly deep, though the ones on his face are a bit superficial.
He's all skin and bones at this point, and something looks off
about his expression.
Character traits:
Powers and talents: Can do quite a bit with electricity,
using it to shock people to death, or just to stun them, or even
to power applicances.
Character type: Speed
Likes: Music; paint-by-numbers
Dislikes: All doctors; hot weather
Faults/Weaknesses: Has more or less lost his mind from all
the tortures he was subjected to in the labs.
Strengths: Has occasional moments of recollection, and whatever
happens remains quite gentle with Christa
Quirks: Sometimes in his ramblings he'll speak of he and Christa's

talk to her like she's a 5-year-old, as she should've been. Is
still a vegetarian.
Secrets: He can't really keep any in his condition
Originally from: Oklahoma
Occupation: None
Any information about his/her past that anyone wants to share:
Clayton was kidnapped and thrown in the laboratories when he was
10 years old, and he met Christa there, and fell in love with
her. The two somehow managed to escape once, but when Clayton
went back to his parents they called the police on him and he
was sent back. Since then, he's been a pretty bitter person.
In the year 2000 (give or take) he and Christa were going to have a child, but the doctors in the lab thought it would be easier to perform a partial birth abortion rather than deal with what its powers might be. Clayton never forgave them for that, and when, a couple years later, Toby helped he and Christa escape, Clayton finally chose to stay behind, choosing to kill the doctors rather than be free himself. He thought that was the only way to protect his friends, and fully expected to be killed. But instead of dying, Clayton was incapacitated and used as a punching bag for variants to try their powers out on. He slowly went mad going through experiments bad enough to turn his hair grey, but retained moments of lucidity, and he and another variant planned a time when everyone would get together at once and fight to escape. Clayton relayed the message to everyone who was sent in to hurt him in the next couple months, and when the time came, 19 variants escaped in the fighting (though many more were killed in the attempt). Clayton was just blindly killing doctors but he managed to make it out and was considered a hero to all the other variants who escaped. They fled to Kitar Island, and in one of his more lucid moments heard Clayton say Christa's name. They determined to bring him to her, and so he and Christa are reunited and living with Christa's mother in Ash River.

Accessories: A small gold wedding band she bought herself
as soon as Clayton came back
Ethnicity: Definitely a mixture
Longer physical description: Christa is rather cute and has
a good complexion, though she's on the heavy side
Character traits:
Powers and talents: Her doctors called her a human voodoo
doll--she can reflect any harm or touch done on her onto anyone
else, with more intensity than it was done to her. If she were
to scratch around her leg with a pin, she could reflect that injury
to make someone else's leg come clean off.

with him. The two somehow managed to escape once, but when Christa
went back home her parents hid her and tried to fight off the
police that came to take her back. Her father was shot and killed,
and Christa was heartbroken; she's been a rather nervous person
ever since, and is only now starting to recover.
In the year 2000 (give or take) Christa was going to have a child, but the doctors in the lab thought it would be easier to perform a partial birth abortion rather than deal with what its powers might be. Christa went mostly mad then, though she eventually recovered. Toby helped her and Clayton escape, and Clayton stayed behind to fight. Toby and Christa continued on, but Toby loved Christa, and Christa could only love Clayton, who she considered herself to be married to. So they went their separate ways. Christa eventually was kidnapped by a man who hoped to use her to assassinate people, but she managed to get in touch with Toby through her power, never mind that he was over 70 years in the past. Becky rescued Christa and took her to Kitar Island. Once there, Christa sent a letter to her mother, who quickly came to join her daughter. Christa got too nervous in Gate Town, so they moved to Ash River, a small settlement on the other side of the island.
A few months ago, several variants came to Ash River, with Clayton, who they all claimed had helped them escape, and who was now mostly out of his mind, from all the experiments he'd been subjected to. Despite all this, Christa was overjoyed to have her husband back, and is currently caring for him, with her mother's help.

Full name/real name: Fiona
Age: 26
Birthday:
Physical description:
Hair: Blonde, reaches to about her shoulders
Eyes: pale blue
Height: 5'7
Clothing: Tends to wear jeans and shirts or t-shirts
Accessories:
Ethnicitiy: Was born in the labs
Longer physical description: Fiona's a quite pretty young
woman, whose expression is generally one of kind-haearted friendliness.
Her hair tends to be a bit messy as she has a tendacy to sweep
it back from her face
Character traits: Rather soft-hearted although more practical
and realistic these days than she used to be
Powers and talents: Fiona's a telepath and she was trained
in the labs to have quite good control over her powers as well.
She will never read a person's thoughts without their permission
and rarely asks although she has a good enough understanding of
people and their behaviour that she can sometimes guess their
thoughts well enough that people think she is reading their minds.
When thoughts are particularly strong she sometimes can't prevent
herself from hearing them, especially if it's someone she cares
about
Character type: Normal
Any information about his/her past that anyone wants to share: Fiona grew up in the labs with her only friends, or real family, being Dominick and Becky. Becky had a bad tendancy to freeze them out though, afraid that having the doctors know that they cared for each other would get them hurt. Fiona, unfortunately, could never block out becky's pain when becky was tested and she always cried when becky was hurt because it was the only response she had for something that upset her so much and took over her thoughts so much. The last thing becky said to her before the lab was destroyed was that she wished that fiona didn't exist because it was too much hassle having someone who wasn't smart enough to protect her friends from the extra torture of being used as collateral. She never held this against becky though, since she always knew deep down that she didn't really mean it and it tore becky apart to see fiona suffer. After the labs were destroyed fiona went with dominick to america, looking for the island that she had heard of where she could be safe, but she found when she lived there that she wanted to do more to help the variants who were suffering or in trouble in the mainland. So she moved to a ranch near a small town and not much else and now provides a home for a small number of variants who need somewhere to stay - ranging from children who've escaped labs to adults who're in hiding. Most of the time these people either move on to somewhere else or the island after a while. Most of them tend to hear of her through word of mouth, just like with the island although Dominick worries that one day normal people will find out about it and she'll be in trouble, but she tells him that she doesn't care - as long as she's helping someone - although she understands how much dominick worries about her.

Any information about his/her past that anyone wants to share:
When Harry was five his father walked out, leaving him and his mother with no means of support. His mother tried to get work and she did but it wouldn't last for long. She slowly drank herself into oblivion and died five years later. He spent another three years being juggled from one disgruntled family member to the next. None wanted the responsibility of a rebellious child. At 13 he was dumped with one of his Uncles who took an interest in the boy. He was a man who had made a living stealing other people's things. The man passed to Harry the only life he had ever known.
Maeve had first caught his eye when she accidentally burnt down a newspaper stand while attempting to get her powers to work, (which didn't happen until she got angry or frustrated) in order to make money like the rest of the freaks standing on street corners in Atlantic City. Her fiery spirit amused him.
((there was a story I started: http://geocities.com/steeleobsessed/thepath.html and it does have an ending but I was going to change it but maybe I wont I don't know. Hmmm, at any rate it wouldn't change what has happened so far))
The next time Harry saw her a drunk had decided that she must have some money on her, even though she looked twice as poor as him, because he had her pinned to the ground searching for change. Harry didn't have time for a drawn out battle, he had just come from a heist gone bad and the cops were on his tail. So he shot the guy, (one less drunk on the streets anyway) pulled him off of her, took her by the hand and dragged her back to his place. After losing the police of course. The girl was a little too shell shocked to protest.
Maeve did get a little skittish once inside his apartment but once faced with staying on the streets she quickly accepted his offer. She used his shower and then went to sleep in his bedroom, alone. He didn't get much out of her concerning her past at first, it came slowly from many night listening to her nightmares.
Harry wasn't about to take in an orphan and not get anything out of it, regardless of how much she needed his generosity. His last heist had left him shaken and if he could mold this girl into a good partner she might be a good distraction, and not just from the police. ;) Once cleaned up she was pretty nice to look at. And being a little lonely himself. Yeah well he could use the extra "fire" power.
She lived with him for over a year and he was at laying on the guilt, getting her to stay and do what he wanted. He had done quite a lot for her: a room in his apartment, clothes, foodtaught her how to survive the streets. He saw it well within his rights to ask for more. Then she simply disappeared. She left him stuck inside a house with no diversion. He was arrested, thrown in jail and when he got out his "insurance money" was gone, along with Maeve.

Originally from: Lanshire, fishing and shipping village southwest
of Seinegald
Occupation: Undertaker
Any information about his/her past that anyone wants to share:
Ezra was born to loving parents, an undertaker perhaps even stranger-looking
than him, and a pretty, sweet, smart Negro lady, in the town of
Lanshire. Ezra learned the family business and took great pride
and joy in embalming the dead. He moved to Kenston when there
was an opening for an undertaker in the town, and he did good
work there, though he wasn't particularly respected, or even liked;
most people saw him as creepy. About a year after he'd been there,
the richest man in town brought him in secretly, and explained
that he was deathly ill, and in constant pain, and that he was
going to end his own suffering. Ezra saw the pain in the man's
eyes and promised not to tell anyone, and when the man died, Ezra
did him up without saying a word about the self-inflicted wounds
he had. The man left Ezra the mansion he'd died in, and Ezra took
up residence there, and kept Mrs. Kent, the man's maidservant,
in his hire.
Ezra met Kizzie, a young woman with powers tied to trees and plants, in 1928. He fell completely in love with her, and helped her learn not to be overwhelmed by her talent, but when her father died, he accompanied her back to her hometown in America, and she fell in with her family and her old boyfriend. He went back to Kenston brokenhearted, and soon after, prodded by his own guilt and something Kizzie's sister Katherine told him, he donated his mansion to become an orphanage. He moved on to other towns, and met Zori, a woman he thought was every bit as pretty as Kizzie, and who needed him just as much. He loved her unfailingly, and when she came to truly love him back, they married. He took her daughter as his own, and they adopted a child, and recently had one of their own.

Originally from: The tiny town of Highgrove on Kitar Island
Occupation: Housewife
Any information about his/her past that anyone wants to share:
When Zori was born, her parents, and most of the people in town,
didn't think anything bad about the numerous green birthmarks
that covered her skin, but as she grew up, the other children
in the small town teased her, and a few well-meaning old women
told her what a shame it was that her looks were spoiled. So Zori
grew up thinking herself hideously ugly, and when a man in town
several years her senior came on to her when she was just 18,
she was rather powerless to resist. He didn't marry her, even
when she gave birth to a speckled daughter, and she was so ashamed,
she moved far away, to the larger town of Marquette, hoping to
remain anonymous. She was never at all comfortable there, but
she managed to get a job in a general store and supported her
baby.
When the owner of the store died suddenly of a heart attack, a very funny-looking man served as undertaker. Ezra Alden was black, with magenta-colored hair, but he was so serious and gentle, Zori didn't think twice about his appearance. He came to visit her several times after the funeral, and Zori grew to trust him, and eventually, to like him.
The store owner's wife suspected Zori of having an affair with her husband, and she eventually tracked down records proving Zori wasn't a widow, but an unwed mother. Zori was mortified, but Ezra quickly stepped forward and proposed to her--just asking that they wait a month, so that she'll be sure she's not making a mistake. They left Marquette and moved to a tiny farming town, living on Ezra's savings, and Zori realized she loved Ezra. They were married soon afterwards, adopted a girl who made close friends with Ezra in the town of Stromberg, and are currenlty living in Everettburg, a small town surrounded by beautiful forest, because Zori missed being near the trees.
Ezra and Zori had a child together, a son named Reid Alden, who's still a baby. He looks just slightly black, with brown hair, and doesn't have a bit of green on his body. Zori cried for two days straight after he was born.

because they're the ones most likely to make fun of her; the girls
in Everettburg have been told not to.
Strengths: Tries her best to cheer up her mother.
Quirks: While Ezra's occupation scares her a little, she's
kind of curious about it too.
Secrets: None

Any information about his/her past that anyone wants to share:
Gerdie was born out of wedlock in the small town of Highgrove,
and her mother quickly fled to the much larger town of Marquette.
When her mother met an undertaker, Ezra Alden, she was frightened
by his strange appearance, but through his unfailing kindness
and a few presents, she grew to like him. She never even knew
who her father was, let alone met the man, so she was thrilled
when her mother finally got married and she had a father figure
in her life. She also made fast friends with Blanche, an orphan
who as much as adopted Ezra in Stromberg, and now they're living
in Everettburg.

Age: (as of June 1932): 9
Birthday: April 27, 1923
Physical description:
Hair: Dark and very curly
Eyes: Brown
Height: 4'1
Clothing: Wears clothes like her sister Gerda's, though she's
not particularly concerned with fashion.

Powers and talents: Can always tell how truthful someone
is, in any particular instance, or in general
Character type: Normal
Likes: Trees; science
Dislikes: Rainy days, and she's not too fond of big cities
Faults/Weaknesses: Since she can tell when people are lying,
she always tells the truth, and she's sometimes a bit blunt about
it
Strengths: Almost always cheerful, even when things look bad;
she's also infinitely curious about anything adults do, and will
watch someone work for hours without growing bored
Quirks: Is very interested in Ezra's occupation, and very
well might take up the family business
Secrets: None

Any information about his/her past that anyone wants to share:
Blanche showed up on the doorstep of a young couple in Stromburg
when she was two years old, with nothing but a card with her name
on it. They cared for her for a couple years, but the wife of
the couple suddenly passed away, and the husband was overwhelmed,
so she was passed around from family to family. Despite this,
Blanche was always sure she'd be taken care of. When Ezra Alden
came to town with his new family, she snuck into his house and
silently watched Ezra do much of his job. Unlike almost any child
her age (and almost any adult), Blanche was simply fascinated
with the whole process, and she loved Ezra because he was so honest.
Though Zori was a bit hesitant to take her into their household,
Ezra quietly and firmly insisted, and since then the whole family
has grown to love her.

Lexie
(LX)
Played by Caroline
Smith IM: Quantum Catz
Full name/real name: Alexandra Hamilton
Age: 22
Birthday: March 27th
Physical description:
Hair: Dark curly hair which she keeps at about shoulder
length
Eyes: Hazel
Height: 5'6
Clothing: Tends to wear loose jeans and dark t-shirts
Accessories: An Eye of Horus pendant ñ the symbol
is said to protect the bearer from evil and confer wisdom. Black
gloves that go up to her elbow.
Ethnicity: American
Longer physical description: Lexie is a thin girl although
her face can look quite tired at times. She has a limp from damaging
her knee when she was 18 and uses a crutch when she needs to though
she mostly refuses it. She always wears her gloves as she doesn't
like using her power and she particularly hates being surprised
by it, which has happened a few times in her childhood.
Character traits:
Powers and talents: Can see a person's past if she touches
their skin with her hands.
Character type: Average
Likes: Going to music concerts and bars with her friends
Dislikes: Her mother's ìpsycho-babbleî as
she calls it. People who pretend to be something they're not.
Faults/Weaknesses: Can be rather adament about her beliefs
to the point that she can be a bit inflexible
Strengths: Is an honest person and would do anything for
her friends.
Quirks: Though she's generally more serious about life
than she used to be, she can be convinced to do more out-going
or spontaneous things by people like Toby or Maeve who are more
out-going themselves.
Secrets: The reason that she was chased was that she was
convinced to use her powers by a friend she had confided in and
in the process revealed a secret in her friend's family about
their father's abuse. The attack was a response by the girl's
brother over the things she had said, though she assumes that
her friend must have calmed him down afterwards, though she's
never spoken to the girl again.

Lexie was rather subdued after Toby was taken to the labs though
she was always adament that one day he would be let out and be
able to come home to them. Her mother's insistence that she should
accept that Toby wasn't going to come back in order to find some
closure and try to get on with her life only tended to make her
more upset. Toby had always been her favourite brother and she
had looked up to him a lot when she was younger, though she wasn't
adverse to telling him off when he got himself into trouble. She
knew it was a bad idea for him to sneak off to see Millie that
night he was arrested but when Toby asked her if she was going
to be like Phoebus and tell their parents, she just made a face
at him and told him that of course she wasn't. Probably part of
her belief that he would one day come back was due to her guilt
over the fact that she'd let him go in the first place even though
she was sure that he'd have found a way out that night even if
she did tell their parents.
She rebelled quite a bit against her parents, particularly her mother, as she was growing up ñ mostly because she felt they were betraying Toby by giving up on him. In some ways she was worse than him as a teenager though she started wearing gloves when she was 14 to make sure that the same thing never happened to her. She stayed out late at night and hung out with crowds that her parents wouldn't have ever allowed her near if they had ever known. She calmed down a bit though when she was older and started to realise that it was only her parents' way of coping with what happened. It was only really coming to terms with that that gave her the time and the inclination to focus on her studies and decide to go into psychology (though the subject decision was more to do with being interested in memory because of her power than through her mother's career.)
When she was 18, just before she went to university, she was chased by a group of men and eventually fell down a steep incline in the nearby Blue Hills Reservation (where she thought she could hide from them), severly damaging her knee. She's never told anyone why they chased her except to admit that it had something to do with her powers and nor would she tell her parents who it was. Aside from this one incident, the men didn't seem to bother her any more than that but her parents still decided to move to another town, taking her with them, since she had to take a year out from her studies for her broken bones to heal and for the physiotherapy that came afterwards. She's still occasionally pressured by her parents and Phoebus to talk about what happened though she generally refuses.
When Becky turns up, claiming to know where he is, she's so hopeful, even after all those years, that he might still be alive, that she quickly offers to read Becky's past to prove to her family that she's telling the truth ñ even though she rather dislikes using her powers.

and his time

Any information about his/her past that anyone wants to share:
Phoebus is the eldest of three children, and he's always been
very driven to succeed. He was good at absolutely everything he
tried, causing his parents to be rather strict on his other siblings,
hoping they'd exhibit the same tendancies. Phoebus was in all
honors classes, got straight A's, made the football and basketball
teams, and so on.
Toby started to play with his powers at a rather young age, and Feeb always warned him that that would get him into trouble, going so far as to hit him whenever he used them. Toby still played quite a few pranks on his older brother, and their fights escalated. Feeb went to Harvard when Toby was 14, but he lived at home...luckily, he was too busy studying to fight with his brother much, and Toby prefered spending time with his own friends.
Feeb had been in school for two years (though he was already a Junior) when Toby was arrested and then just disappeared off the face of the earth. Feeb was rather upset that his brother didn't seem to even get a trial (the government just claiming a trial took place and mailing them the results), and he almost considered becoming a lawyer--but he couldn't give up his lifelong dream of medicine. He and his whole family couldn't track down any information about Toby, except that he'd been declared guilty.
The family worked hard to convince themselves that Toby's still all right somewhere--their father actually went to a "psychic" to try to determine this--but Feeb couldn't keep up hope. Eventually he stumbled across a couple webpages for the variant rights movement, offering little advice, but outlining the process a variant who's caught goes through. Though he never said anything to his family, he was sure Toby was put in a lab, and fairly sure his brother was dead. He thought they'd be better off declaring Toby dead and holding a memorial service for him, but he never suggested it to his parents, knowing his father and Lexie aren't ready to give him up yet. Feeb isn't superstitious, but he had to go into Toby's bedroom and say goodbye to him before he could move on with his life.
Feeb's little sister, Lexie, had a traumatic experience when she was 18, and their parents knew it had to do with their powers, so they saw fit to move to a different state, to protect her. Feeb couldn't leave his medical residency, which had a year to go, and he stayed behind in Boston. He's just made full doctor now, and he has a job at a clinic; it doesn't pay all that well, but he enjoys helping people. He's still thinking about moving out to be with his family, though. Once or twice he had a fleeting fancy to become a doctor in a variant lab, trying to bring them down from the inside, but he's too sensible to actually try it.
Feeb has dated a couple dozen women and was serious about three of them. He dated his most recent girlfriend for over a year before she started to get on his nerves (she was rather scatterbrained), and he broke up with her. He's been single for about four months now, though he's starting to look for a woman he'd like to spend his life with.

Hair: Dark brown, and thinning in the back
Eyes: Hazel
Height: 5'10
Clothing: He wears a suit and tie to work, and still wears
button-up shirts in most of his off-time, unless he's out jogging.
Accessories: Wears his late grandfather's wind-up wristwatch,
and always carries at least $100 in cash in his wallet
Ethnicity: American
Longer physical description: Tom was rather handsome in his
younger days, though he's put on his weight and his eyebrows have
grown bushier since. He has the beginnings of crow's feet, but
there's something about his face that even now suggests he's suffered
something he can't put out of his mind.
Character traits:
Powers and talents: His father seemed to be awfully strong,
but perhaps not freakishly so, and Tom didn't inherit any of it.
Character type: Normal
Likes: Jogging; action films; "cahs"
Dislikes: Snakes; novels
Faults/Weaknesses: Has been known to get into arguments just
for the sake of arguing, and he's not very ambitious
Strengths: Is every bit as smart as more educated people,
and works hard for the sake of his family
Quirks: Loves women in glasses
Secrets: He still suffers from feelings of guilt over not
teaching Toby to use his powers responsibly and not somehow breaking
him out of the labs. He can't bear the thought of Toby being dead,
and even when the family moved he and Lexie teamed up against
Shannon to take a few boxes of Toby's important things, while
she wanted to get rid of everything.

Tom was born and raised in Boston, and still has a bit of the
accent. He had a factory job but was laid off a few years after
Lexie was born, and the family had a couple rough years while
Tom worked his way through school so he could get a new job. He
finally got a job with the Census bureau, and makes pretty good
money.
He's always been a bit of an old-fashioned man, not one to talk about his feelings, but when Toby was arrested and then went missing, everything he had inside could be read clearly on his face, a haunted look that hasn't yet fully left him. While his wife insisted he talk through his feelings, he never would, instead clinging to hope that Toby must still be alive somewhere, and even consulting a psychic in the hopes she'd be able to help him find Toby. The psychic said that Toby was alive, and Tom called her a couple times a year, though his wife repeatedly told him to stop. When Lexie broke her leg, Tom got a bit wrapped up in the present, and it was months afterwards, once they were settled down in Philadelphia, when he finally called the psychic again. She told him she couldn't pick up any readings on Toby, and Tom nearly broke down. He was only able to keep himself going by convincing himself that she didn't know what she was talking about, and that was little comfort, since he'd before counted on her testimony to reassure him that Toby was, in fact, alive and well.
When Toby got locked up Tom continued going to church for a month or so, but he couldn't draw any comfort from it, so he stopped. He still has a strong spiritual side, and he's been trying any other avenues he can think of, to try to find meaning in his loss.
Tom has searched the public census records for Toby's name, just out of boredom and desperation, but he never found anything, which just further depressed him.

Any information about his/her past that anyone wants to share:
Ella was born to a poor mother, the illegitimate son of the richest
man in her tiny town. She had an older brother, Clarence, and
was well-taken care of, having, despite her appearance, a not-unpleasant
childhood. Her power started to manifest itself when she was still
a baby, but her family stood by her, even though they thought
she was going mad. As she grew older, they realized what it was,
and tried their best to control it.
Clarence took the family away from Goldenhill when Ella was just 3, and she had a happy time in Winesburg, with her brother and mother working full-time in the general store to provide for her. She was even happier in Campwarren, a tiny town her brother became mayor of in 1924. She had a good teacher there, and learned to poke fun at her own appearance when necessary.
Clarence left them to persue other mayorships in bigger towns, sending them money so they could live happily. Their mother took ill and died rather suddenly in September 1931, and Clarence came back to Campwarren for the funeral, then insisted Ella come back to Marquis with him. She insisted on staying in the orphanage there, so she wouldn't bother her brother, or hamper his career. And she's been there ever since.
