YarnKittymon: LB: ::has her house all decked
out for the holiday, with a small decorated tree and garlands
just about everywhere; she did go to the Christmas service at
church but ducked out early to make sure the goose (or her house)
doesn't burn::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::is working on the Christmas
cookies when her first guest(s) arrive(s)::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::simply teleports herself
to Libby's with Dan:: Hey
YarnKittymon: LB: ::a little startled; smiles,
then gets back to kneading the dough:: Good to see you, Becky.
YarnKittymon: DN: ::looks cheerfully at Libby;
having grown up a bit he's too polite to ask outright what she
got him:: Merry Christmas!
Quantum Catz: BM: ::smiles:: Do you need any
help?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::grins:: You might as well
go out and play with Daniel; we don't want F-U-R in the...::stops,
then laughs:: But he can spell, can't he?
Quantum Catz: BM: ::laughs:: Yep, but i think
we get the point - come on Dan
YarnKittymon: DN: ::swishes his tail:: A little
fur never hurt anyone.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::knocks on Libby's door::
Quantum Catz: BM: I'll get it ::goes and opens
the door for Maeve::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::smiles:: Hey Becky.
Quantum Catz: BM: Hey, Merry Christmas
YarnKittymon: DN: ::meows cheerfully::
YarnKittymon: GU: ::nods to Becky and Daniel::
Good day.
YarnKittymon: TY: ::approaches the doorway, feeling
rather nervous and uncomfortable, but he's sure spending Christmas
alone would be even worse--he went to church (lacking anything
better to do) and has his shirt buttoned up all the way::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::smiles although she gets
a sad look in her eye when she sees Toby; to Maeve and Guy (and
technically toby since he's behind them):: Come on in, Libby's
in the kitchen
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she smiles again and passes
through the doorway then heads towards Libby's kitchen.::
YarnKittymon: GU: ::follows closely beside Maeve::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::stays back a bit, not particularly
sure anyone present except Maeve is on good terms with him::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smiles at the guests, welcoming
each by name:: Go ahead and sit down; dinner's almost ready.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::turns up soon after the rest::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::steps away from her cookies
to give Jack a kiss, then goes back hurriedly to the kitchen::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::smiles weakly at Toby:: Hey
::though she doesn't really know what else to say::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::laughs:: You want some help?
I ain't much good in the kitchen but i can follow orders
YarnKittymon: TY: ::smiles back, looking a bit
sad, though; softly:: Good to see you again.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::laughs, clearly pleased by
the offer:: You can take the goose out of the oven if you've a
mind to, but I've got everything under control. ::pushes her hair
back with her arm, not looking completely in control::
Quantum Catz: JK: I think i can manage to pull
that one off ::sets about getting the goose out::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::puts in the rolls right after::
The one time of year I wish I had two ovens. ::opens a can of
mixed vegetables to heat over the stove::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::hesitates, looking indecisive,
and then she pulls a string of beads from her pockets and says,
quickly: These are for you. They're Rudraksha beads - they promote
tranquility and health - they're useful for meditation as well,
Quantum Catz: which's why i got them but i figured
you probably need them more...i know you don't really believe
this stuff...but...they do work...
Quantum Catz: JK: ::chuckles:: Yeah, back home
my mom was always ordering us about at Christmas, actin' like
the world'd end if everythin' wasn't done just right...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::takes the beads, looking
rather shocked; quietly, not looking up at Becky:: Thanks. I...::hesitates,
then takes a small package, wrapped; quickly:: It's nothing so
neat...and I thought about building a doghouse but then
YarnKittymon: Daniel might misunderstand....
YarnKittymon: DN: ::mrrs, looking around::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::laughs weakly:: Probably.
Thank-you...you...didn't have to... ::takes the package and opens
it::
YarnKittymon: : ::it's a slightly raggedy paperback
book with a hideous orange cover, probably printed in the 1970s;
it's about Buddhism::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::softly:: I tried to read
it but I guess it's not something you could learn from books...
YarnKittymon: LB: ::grins at Jack:: That must've
been better than my house, though, with Mother just assaulting
the poor cook.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she peaks back into foyer,
a sly smile coming across her features as she sees Toby and Becky
standing in the near the doorway, a thing of mistletoe danlging
above their heads. She straightens, putting on a friendly smile
she appraoches them carefully wondering
what they reaction would be but denying to know all the same::
Well, guys, whaddya know. ::points above their heads:: Mistletoe.
::grins::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::looks up and then, in a tone
suggesting not to push it:: Maeve...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::steps away from the doorway,
not speaking::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she just shrugs, still smiling::
Awe, come on... wheres your christmas spirit? ::sighs:: You guys
are no fun. ::she pouts and walks away::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::sighs and looks down, clutching
the book in her hands::
YarnKittymon: GU: ::glances at Maeve, then goes
over to the doorway and snags the mistletoe, going back over to
Maeve::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::softly:: I know it's not
very nice, but there's really not any books about Buddhism *now.*
::sighs inaudibly, remembering past Christmases::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::shrugs:: It was always good
fun till Dad came home
Quantum Catz: BM: ::looks down at it:: How did
you get it?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looks a little saddened at
that:: My father was wonderful, when he was around. I suppose
yours...wasn't.
Quantum Catz: JK: Nope ::although he doesn't
say any more than that::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::softly:: Floyd--the doctor--can--could--skip
forward in time for a little while. He couldn't bring *history*
books back, but he managed this one when I asked him.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smiles weakly:: Well, he
won't be coming in *here,* so we'll have a grand Christmas.
YarnKittymon: GU: ::slips the mistletoe over
Maeve's head and, before she can even react, kisses her lightly::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::looks up at Toby:: How come
you tried to read it? You've never much cared about it all before
YarnKittymon: TY: ::still not looking at Becky::
I wanted to feel closer to you. Maybe understand where you were
coming from. Why you left.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::smiles slightly as he glances
out the kitchen door:: If those two are even talkin' then it might
well be
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smiles weakly:: Well, the
sermon *was* on Christmas miracles, so maybe. ::pours the vegetables
into a bowl:: Throw that meat on the table, will you?
Maeve Owens: MV: ::her eyes widen in surprise
and she barely has time to respond but when he pulls away theres
a slight smirk on her face, although her eyes are showing her
mirth:: Fast one aintya? ::grins, grabbing the mistletoe and tossing
it
Maeve Owens: over her shoulder::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::winces:: I don't know if
you really can understand without knowing the way i used to feel
before you...before i had a body... But you know why i left -
i told you ::sighs::
Quantum Catz: JK: Sure ::does as Libby asks::
YarnKittymon: DN: ::pounces at the mistletoe,
gnawing on it (though he probably shouldn't)::
YarnKittymon: GU: Turnabout is fair play, isn't
it?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::shakes his head; quietly::
I know...and I...guess everything...::inhales:: Clayton came back
to Christa, she said. I don't *think* she's gone crazy.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she arches one eyebrown at
him:: Seeking revenge for someone else now? ::she starts to smile
at him agian but Daniel catches her eye and she goes to shew him
away from the mistletoe::
YarnKittymon: DN: ::meows:: You shouldn't throw
stuff if you don't want me to chase it.
Quantum Catz: BM: But i thought he...was dead?
YarnKittymon: TY: Should've been, I guess, but
they caught him again, experimented on him for all these years.
He had just enough sense left to put together some kind of escape,
probably saved a couple dozen lives. Even if I don't know if
YarnKittymon: he's capable of knowing it. ::quickly::
That's all if Christa was right, though.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::rolls her eyes:: yes well
must chase *everything*? ::glances around for something else to
amuse Daniel with::
YarnKittymon: DN: ::eyes light on the tree, and
he watches it, his tail twitching::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::takes the bread out of the
oven and lets it cool on top of the stove, sliding the cookies
in; looks back at the table, then laughs:: I know it's your day
off, but could you pour the drinks?
Maeve Owens: MV: Daniel.. dont even think about
it... Libby will have your head if you destroy her tree.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::glances over at Daniel::
I could get Dominick to take you to see her...if you want...
YarnKittymon: DN: ::mrrs, getting control of
himself again::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::laughs:: Yes, boss
Maeve Owens: MV: ::shakes her head. laughing::
Yeah I know you ya feel.
YarnKittymon: TY: ::quietly, looking back at
Becky (now that she's not looking at him):: Would you?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::finishes arranging the table;
it's already set, and when Jack finishes with the drinks it'll
be all ready; she nods with satisfaction::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::shrugs:: Well it was never
his intention to keep you trapped here - part of the reason he
had us meet was so i could find him if you needed or wanted to
go back to your own time, wasn't it?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::quickly:: I'll have him bring
me back right away. I just want to visit. See if...everything's
OK, you know?
YarnKittymon: DN: ::sniffs, then looks up at
Maeve:: I'm hungry now.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::smiles:: I'm sure its almost
ready.
YarnKittymon: GU: I'm sure it'll be wonderful.
::smiles, remembering a case::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::nods, not looking entirely
like she believes him:: He might not be in the most talkative
moods with you though...I was pretty upset when i saw Fiona and
it was over us so...he probably knows that
YarnKittymon: TY: ::groans slightly:: It's all
right...he doesn't have to take me if he doesn't want to.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::nods:: Better than anything
I could ever do anyway.
Quantum Catz: BM: Don't worry, he will ::smiles
weakly:: Taking you there gets you away from me, doesn't it?
YarnKittymon: GU: ::quickly:: I'm sure that's
not true.
YarnKittymon: TY: ::frowns:: Would he bring me
*back*?
Maeve Owens: MV: ::laughs:: Oh yes it is.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::looks at Toby:: I'm sure
he would...if it was what you wanted
YarnKittymon: TY: ::quietly:: It is. ::looks
like he's going to say something, but he stops himself::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::coming out of the kitchen::
Dinner's ready when you are.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::looks over at Libby and then,
smiling weakly at Toby, moves towards the table::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::smiles to see Becky smiling
at him, but then looks down again, like he's shy or something::
YarnKittymon: GU: ::pulls out a chair for Maeve,
then sits down next to her::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she takes the seat without
comment::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::takes the odd chair out of
the set (borrowed from her neighbor), at the head of the table::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::takes the chair to libby's
left and becky sits beside him::
YarnKittymon: DN: ::sits next to Becky, leaving
Toby away from her, though that might be for the best::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::briefly looks over the men
around the table, and not finding any of them to be particularly
good prospects, stands and prays over the food herself::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::doesn't say a long prayer,
just asking God to bless everyone at the table--when she's done
she asks Jack if he wants to carve the bird::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::nods and does so, quite well::
YarnKittymon: DN: ::starts to get excited when
the meat is passed around::
YarnKittymon: GU: ::smiles at Maeve, looking
otherwise not completely interested in the scene::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::is quiet but otherwise appears
to be enjoying herself::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she manages a smile while
doing a very good job at covering up the fact that these kinds
of things make her somewhat nervous::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::doesn't look nearly as miserable
as he did when he first came in::
YarnKittymon: : ::they have a delicious and wonderfully
uneventful dinner, and Libby's guests stay for several hours afterwards,
reminiscing and talking about the future; Guy seems to soak it
all in like a sponge::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::regardless of how the others
are acting, doesn't *feel* like he's welcome to join in, so he
mostly listens as well::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::is cheerful enough although
her friends can probably tell that she isn't as happy as she looks,
especially from the occasional sad glances she shoots in Toby's
direction when he isn't looking. She occasionally does try to
join
Quantum Catz: him in the conversation though,
missing his usual self::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she has a cheerful smile
on her face and is quite energetic. She's contributed a lot to
the conversations although she might have been somewhat quiet
when any mention of the future was brought up::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::is just his usual self, friendly
with everyone::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::frankly, still isn't too
pleased with Toby, so she (somewhat unintentionally) snubs him;
even so, she has a good time and seems to be sorry to see her
guests leave::
YarnKittymon: DN: ::rubs against Becky's knee,
hard:: Come on; I wanna go show Sara my new toys!
Quantum Catz: BM: ::chuckles:: Okay, i guess
we'd better go then
YarnKittymon: TY: ::stands to go too; looking
at Becky; softly:: I'll see you around.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::smiles, although rather weakly::
Yeah, bye
YarnKittymon: GU: ::yawns, standing and stretching::
Then I suppose we need to be on our way too. Thank you very much
for dinner, Miss Williamson; it was wonderful.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::stands as well:: Thanks for
the meal Libby, I had a wonderful time. ::smiles::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::grins:: It was my pleasure.
Thank you so much for the chocolates; I'm sure it hurt you to
part with them.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::laughs:: Nah, I bought extras.
YarnKittymon: GU: ::laughs, taking Maeve's arm
as he heads to the door:: Good night, then.
YarnKittymon: LB: Good night, you two. I'll see
you tomorrow, Maeve.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::nods:: Good night.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smiles back at Jack when
her guests are gone:: Nothing left but the cleaning up. I'm not
sure the wine will come out of the rug, but no matter.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::smirks:: Mr. Fix-it could
probably do somethin' 'bout it if you were talkin' to him
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smirks:: I know you're not
real big on fellas cheatin' on their girlfriends either.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::shrugs:: Well i ain't...but
he didn't look like the happiest guy in the world tonight
YarnKittymon: LB: ::takes Jack's hand; quietly::
I know...but it's hard for me to forgive him, after what he did
to poor Becky. She's like a little sister to me.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::shrugs:: Yeah i know...but
it ain't exactly been a walk in the park for him since he did
it. Kinda feel sorry for the guy really
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: I'll try to forgive
him, in time. I never...never forgave Donald, and look what became
of him.
Quantum Catz: JK:::sighs:: Donald was a decent
man underneath. He was a good mate
YarnKittymon: LB: ::doesn't look at Jack:: If
it's true how he died, I guess you're right. Not that you have
to go out in a blaze of glory to be a good fella, but I guess
it can cover over some wrongdoing.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::moves to start moving the
plates and things through to the kitchen:: Ain't the kinda guy
to take kindly to people hurtin' others...but sometimes they do
make mistakes
YarnKittymon: LB: ::takes some more plates and
a glass, careful not to spill:: I know. And I'm sure he was sorry,
given how he apologized every half hour or so for the last year.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::chuckles:: You weren't stuck
in a prison cell with him moping about it
YarnKittymon: LB: ::grins:: No wonder you don't
mind cleaning up after a party, then--more fun than *that.*
Quantum Catz: JK: ::laughs:: Nah, he wasn't so
bad
YarnKittymon: LB: ::runs a sink full of water::
And if it hadn't been for him, you wouldn't be here.
Quantum Catz: JK: Yep, i'd still be stuck behind
bars
YarnKittymon: LB: ::gets to work scrubbing the
plates:: Dry them and I'll give you your Christmas present.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::chuckles:: Bribery, eh? ::picks
up the dish towel and starts to dry the dishes as libby washes::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::grins:: Whatever works. I
think most men would've just given up the present as lost, though.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::smirks:: There's four women
in my house - i could only stand up to them for so long - well
trained by now
YarnKittymon: LB: No brothers?
Quantum Catz: JK: Nope
YarnKittymon: LB: ::laughs:: I still have a hard
time imagining you hen-pecked, though.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::shrugs:: Yeah, well, they're
my family
YarnKittymon: LB: ::finishes the dishes, looking
rather cheerful; dries her hands:: Well, it's a lot quicker work
with two people. Thanks.
Quantum Catz: JK: 'S okay ::smirks:: 'S not like
i got anywhere better to be
YarnKittymon: LB: ::nods:: And I *am* good company.
::goes back into the living room and takes a small, heavy box
from under the tree::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::chuckles:: And so modest
about it too
YarnKittymon: LB: ::grins:: I'm just *honest.*
YarnKittymon: LB: Well, open it and see if gift-giving's
on the list of things I'm good at too.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::goes over to where he left
Libby's present earlier, a small box, and hands it to her:: You
can open this at the same time then
YarnKittymon: LB: ::grins:: Here I'd thought
you'd forgotten.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::smirks:: Such faith you have
YarnKittymon: LB: ::laughs:: Well, why *else*
would a man willingly set the table, if he weren't trying to make
up for some other failing? ::opens the present::
Quantum Catz: : ::it's a pretty looking gold
necklace::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::opens his present as well::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looks rather surprised, but
doesn't speak, watching Jack::
YarnKittymon: : ::there's a fairly nice wristwatch
inside, with a leather band; it's got a Swiss movement::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::smiles:: Thanks ::although
when he looks up at Libby there's a slightly wary look on his
face::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looks back down at the necklace;
quietly:: It's beautiful. You shouldn't've spent so much.
Quantum Catz: JK: Ah, it wasn't that much...and
i knew you'd like it
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smiles up at Jack:: Do you
really like yours? I can change it for a pocketwatch if you'd
rather, but those really look a little ridiculous without a suit.
Quantum Catz: JK: :Nah, never been much of a
one for pocketwatches - not really my style ::his expression relaxes
a bit::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::puts the necklace around
her neck, then turns her back to him, handing him the ends:: Fasten
it, will you? ::lowers her head so he can't snag her hair:: I
guess you're getting paid good money for all those trips to Gate
Town, then.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::is rather grateful to be
standing behind her:: Yeah, well, better than just workin behind
the bar... ::fastens the necklace::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::puts her hand back onto Jack's;
softly:: You ever think of becoming a businessman or something?
Quantum Catz: JK: ::hesitates:: Not really...why?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::turns to face him; softly::
You're a sharp fella, Jack...I know it's not a great time to find
a job, but I can't imagine you'll be happy behind that bar forever.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::shrugs:: It ain't so bad
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smirks:: You just like it
because you don't have to wear a suit and tie.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::chuckles:: Well it is a damn
good bonus
YarnKittymon: LB: ::kisses Jack; then, softly::
Merry Christmas.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::smiles:: Merry Christmas
to you too
