YarnKittymon: : ::the whole party was too exhausted
to make it back to Marquis last night, and Libby at least had
the sense to insist they camp out; luckily, it doesn't rain; she
wakes with the sun, her head on Jack's chest and one arm around
him::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::is still sleeping heavily,
snoring slightly although not particularly loudly::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::she turns over on her side,
grumbles, pulls a stick from underneath of her and flings it away
from her in disgust before settling back down to try and sleep:::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::sits up slightly to see that
Maeve is still at least trying to sleep, and then rests her head
on Jack again, waiting for one of them to wake; she's not tired,
but it feels good to be near him::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::after a while he groans and
stretches his arms out above his head, yawning::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::sits up; softly, her hand
still on his chest:: Good morning.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::::something fuzzy crawls
across the arm that is pillowing her head and she jerks awake.
Her eyes widen as they settle on a strange looking bug. She quickly
sits up, letting out a small shriek as she does so, while flailing her arm about to dislodge the unwelcome
guest from her arm::: Get off of me!
Quantum Catz: JK: ::turns to Maeve:: You alright?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::grumbles::: Yes, unless
you count every muscle in my body protesting to any kind of movement.
:::she turns her head, stretching out her neck but winces when
the cramping intensifies:::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::frowns, stretching:: I know
the feeling...but the sooner we get home the sooner we can sleep
somewhere soft.
Quantum Catz: JK: Ah, it's not so bad
Maeve Owens: MV: :::rises to her feet::: Hmph.
:::looks at Jack:: *You* practically had a blanket. :::moving
her gaze to Libby::: And you practically had a mattress! Of course
it wasn't *that* bad.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::laughs:: I don't think Libby
quite works as a blanket, it's not like she was draped right over
me
YarnKittymon: LB: ::flushes rather deeply, turning
her attention to her pack, and not replying::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::bites back a laugh and turns
away:::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::trying to regain her dignity;
stands:: Let's just get back home, OK?
Maeve Owens: MV: Works for me.
Quantum Catz: JK: Yeah ::stands up and stretches
again::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looks at Jack for a moment,
silently, then straightens her shirt and starts off towards Marquis
again::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::she follows behind the two
love birds, a wistful expression on her face::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::walks quite cheerfully towards
the town::
YarnKittymon: : ::they continue on but when they're
about a quarter mile from the town a guard approaches them, looking
rather worried, his crossbow drawn:: Halt!
Maeve Owens: MV: :::the shout startles her,
almost as much as the crossbow::: Well, so much for a warm welcome.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::stops walking, looking at
the guard, a bit pale::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::stops:: Alright, mate, no
need to look so worried, you're te one with the weapon here
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard frowns, looking around
him suspiciously, then, softly:: Jack, ladies, they're gonna arrest
the lot of you if you go back in town.
Quantum Catz: JK: Bugger, i guess they noticed
we were gone, then
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard looks around again::
You three did something to make everyone healthy, didn't you?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::nods, looking rather pale:::
Yeah but it might be better if we extended our vacation. :::glances
over at Libby nervously:::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: I don't want to
leave town...
Maeve Owens: MV: :::mumbles::: I don't want
to go back to jail.
Quantum Catz: JK: That ain't really in my future
plans either
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly, not looking up::
Well, we could hire a lawyer; perhaps he could get us freed.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::grumbles::: That is if we
even *live* to see our trial.
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard frowns:: I think...I
think most the town understands....it's just the mayor insists
on playing by the rules.
Quantum Catz: JK: Well so they should since we
got rid of all the disease for them
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard speaks quietly::
Still, we were under quarantine. ::quickly:: The mayor said he'll
get the governor of Gate Town to send guards after you.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::winces:: And its back to
being on the run.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::a little sharply:: Well,
we're running out of continents, Maeve!
Maeve Owens: MV: :::cringes::: I'm sorry! At
least this time its not completely my fault!
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: It's not your fault;
it's mine. Perhaps if I explained how I coerced you two into it...
Maeve Owens: MV: I wasn't blaming you either!
*Someone* had to stop him!
Quantum Catz: JK: Arguin' with each other ain't
goin' to help anything
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looking through the forest
in the direction of Marquis; softly:: I just wanted to settle
down...
Maeve Owens: MV: :::sighs:: How are we going
to get the mayor to believe it was us that aided in everyones
recovery?
YarnKittymon: : ::they hear a couple voices in
the distance, and some rustling::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::pales even more::: Too late,
they founds us. :::attempts to start running in the opposite direction
of the noise:::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looks at Jack silently::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::looks at Libby:: I'm seriously
tempted to run, Libby - coupla days and i can be off the island
and gone...but....
Maeve Owens: MV: :::calls over her shoulder:::
You two just going to stand there and be carted off to jail?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::not quite sure what to say;
softly:: I love you, Jack...I'll...go back to town, and you wait
for me.
Quantum Catz: JK: But...you'll be arrested
Maeve Owens: MV: :::yelling::: And most likely
killed for your trouble!
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: I'm tired of running.
This will blow over in a few days; you'll see. ::glances back
at Jack, then walks towards town::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::shakes his head:: I ain't
got a trusting bone in my body for the authorities, Libby....I'm
sorry... ::hesitates and then turns to follow Maeve::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::turns around for a moment
to watch her head into town::: Thats what you said the last time!
:::moans::: Libby come on! I don't exactly feel right about just
abondoning you to go to jail *alone*. But I'm with Jack on this
one.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::nudges the guard; softly::
Looks like you caught me. ::goes on towards town, ignoring Maeve::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::looks back at Libby too;
softly:: It's her decision, Maeve
Maeve Owens: MV: :::groans::: I'm a horrible
friend but I cant go back. Maybe her experience in jail wont go
as horribly wrong as mine did. I hope anyway.
Quantum Catz: JK: Jail ain't ever a great experience...but
I doubt the jails here are as bad as you can get on the mainland
Maeve Owens: MV: Thats true and I've never been
inside a jail on the island so I wouldn't know what steps they've
taken to make sure certain variants remain inside their cells.
Anyways, I guess we should keep moving if we dont want to be caught.
Quantum Catz: JK: Yeah
Maeve Owens: MV: :::she continues on in the
direction she had been going:::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::suddenly grabs onto Jack's
arm and pulls him back towards town::: We *have* to go back! Maybe
we can get to her before everyone finds out she's back. :::theres
a sense of urgancy in her voice:::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::frowns at Maeve:: But she
don't want to come with us
Maeve Owens: MV: Too bad, she is going to have
to. They might kill her off if she goes back into town!
Quantum Catz: JK: I don't think they'd kill 'er
- not if most've the town is on her sid
Maeve Owens: MV: :::puts her hands on her hips:::
We dont have time to argue. The law doesn't care who is on whose
side. I just might have a reason to believe that they might so
maybe we should just go and drag her back. Alright?
Quantum Catz: JK: *why* have you got a reason
to think that? I doubt breakin quarantine is that bad, especially
if it fixes the whole damn thing
Maeve Owens: MV: Because she doesn't seem to
be present in my future okay! So maybe I'm overly paranoid but
I'd rather be sure...
Quantum Catz: JK: In yer future? For God's sake,
what happened to that normal world i got used to where everythin
doesn't seem to have some crazy *magical* thing to it all the
darned time?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::smiles::: You entered my
world, thats what.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::rolls his eyes:: 'S what
I get fer offering a friendly ear to my lovestruck cell-mate anyway
- won't be doing that again in a hurry - come on, i guess we can
check it out or something..maybe we can find out what they're
gonna do with Libby - rather than runing along and forcing her
to come with us
Maeve Owens: MV:
:::nods::: Sounds good to me.
Quantum Catz: JK: Me too - I still ain't rested
enough to deal with puttin' Libby in a bad mood
Maeve Owens: MV:
I'd say going to jail should already have her in a bad mood. I
would be. :::she heads back towards town::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::sighs:: She didn't have to
go
Maeve Owens: MV: :::she moves along without
comment, growing more nervous the closer they get:::
YarnKittymon: : ::they get within sight of town
without being approached by any guards::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::looks around for any signs
of Libby:::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::watches out for any guards,
sure that no matter what Libby says, that the guards will still
take them for being as guilty as libby::
YarnKittymon: : ::Jack spots two guards near
the edge of town, both with spears, neither paying all that much
attention to their duties; Maeve doesn't see any sign of Libby::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::whispers::: Do we try to
go any further? Cause I'm thinking we're already too late.
Quantum Catz: JK: I dunno...but i'd rather those
guards didn't see us anyway
YarnKittymon: : ::they spot Toby walking near
the edge of town, looking rather pale and thin, his hands in his
pockets, his gaze fixed on the ground; he doesn't spot Maeve and
Jack::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::smirks::: Now if I had telepathic
powers I'd tell Toby to go after Libby.
Quantum Catz: JK: Can't you use your fire powers
to grab his attention somehow - without burnin down the forest
of course
Maeve Owens: MV: :::still smirking::: Sure...
and also the guards while I'm at it.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::rolls his eyes:: Well, i
don't know - i just think it'd be a hell of a lot easier to get
him to find out what's goin on than t'try goin into town ourselves...
Maeve Owens: MV: Fine, but if the guards spot
it prepare to run. :::she makes a fireball, tossing it up and
down to get Toby's attention:::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::finally looks up; he looks
a bit angry, and silently tries to shoo them away::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::the fireball disappears
as she motions for him to come over:::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::does so, still looking rather
angry; whispers:: You two get *out* of here!
Maeve Owens: MV: What have they done with Libby?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::walks past them, farther
into the forest, without speaking::
Maeve Owens: MV: Toby! :::follows him:: They
didn't kill her on sight did they?
Quantum Catz: JK: ::folds his arms and follows
them both, looking tense although not so worried as Maeve obviously
is::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::glances back at Maeve; softly::
No.
Maeve Owens: MV: Then what is going on then?
Why do you look so angry?
YarnKittymon: TY: Because you were stupid enough
to show up. They're gonna whip her, and they'd do the same to
you if they caught you.
Maeve Owens: MV: What?! We've got to get her
out!
Quantum Catz: JK: ::the look on his face instantly
freezes over, hiding his emotions; coldly:: It's nice to know
they're civilised about things on this island anyway
Maeve Owens: MV: I knew it. :::turns around
to head back into town:::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::grabs for her wrist:: You
can't just barge into town - they'd just arrest you too
Maeve Owens: MV: :::jerks her arm away::: Well
we cant just stand around and let them do that to her! We don't
have time for another plan either!
YarnKittymon: TY: ::softly, not looking up::
They won't do it 'til tomorrow, and I can heal her when they're
done.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::softly::: That doesn't take
away the emotional scars Toby.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::smiles weakly, athough still
rather coldly:: Reckon they'd let her off if i said i'd take her
turn too?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::looks ready to object, then,
softly:: I don't know...
Maeve Owens: MV: Then we have time to think
of a way to break her out overnight. Any suggestions?
Quantum Catz: JK: Knowin Libby...she'd prob'ly
rather have the whip than go on the run ov'r it, Maeve
Maeve Owens: MV: :::looks over at Toby::: Have
you spoken to her?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::shakes his head:: I just
heard they had her, and yesterday the mayor decided the punishment
for you three.
Maeve Owens: MV: I don't feel right about leaving
her in there, regardless if she *might* want to stay.
YarnKittymon: TY: Why'd you guys leave town,
anyway? Didn't do you any good.
Quantum Catz: JK: I ain't now...ain't no point
in runnin' from a whippin, if that's all they're gonna do
Maeve Owens: MV: To stop everyone from dying.
We found the man responsible and with the help of his children
we got him to cure everyone. Maybe we should go back for them...see
if they could help.
YarnKittymon: TY: ::leans heavily against a tree,
sighing::
Maeve Owens: MV: You probably shouldn't be hanging
around with us Toby. Might get you in trouble.
Quantum Catz: JK: Screw that, Maeve. They obviously
don't care about *why* we did it ::turns and heads back towards
the town::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::straightens, looking back
at Maeve:: So you're back on the run?
Maeve Owens: MV: I guess not. I mean, they both
went back... so I guess I better go to. Where else am I going
to go? It would only be a matter of time before they caught me.
YarnKittymon: TY: ::softly:: Unless you could
really convince them that you three saved the town...
Maeve Owens: MV: :::nods, looking farther into
the woods::: I suppose. That is if I don't get lost on my way.
:::laughs::: And its better than going to jail.
YarnKittymon: TY: ::nods silently::
Maeve Owens: MV: Well, wish me luck then. :::smiles
at him before heading off in the direction the three of them had
come from:::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::softly:: Good luck, then...
YarnKittymon: : ::one of the guards finally spots
Jack, though he's practically in town, and grabs his arm:: You
know where I'm taking you, right?
Quantum Catz: JK: ::mutters sarcastically:: Don't
suppose it's down the pub for a drink, is it?
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard smirks, a bit sadistically::
Sorry. Mayor's orders, you know. ::escorts him to the small jail
near the center of town; it's built of simple wooden planks, with
three barred cells on the inside; Libby's alone in
YarnKittymon: the one nearest the door, looking
pretty scared in the lantern light, and more scared upon seeing
Jack:: They caught you?
Quantum Catz: JK: Well, they'll probably say
that but i dunno if walkin' up to them really counts as bein'
caught
YarnKittymon: LB: ::as the guard unlocks the
cell next to hers; Libby's eyes widen:: Why?
Quantum Catz: JK: ::looks at her for a moment
and then turns to the guard and says:: I want to talk to your
mayor by the way ::sarcastically:: And preferably before tomorrow
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard opens the door wide
for Jack:: He's your mayor too, you know.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::doesn't reply to that, he
simply steps into the cell::
Quantum Catz: JK: Just get him alright?
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard slams the cell door;
a little sarcastically:: Yes, sir. ::he heads off, though there's
another guard sitting at a desk across from the cells, looking
a strange cross between bored and uncomfortable::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::looks around at the cell,
a slight grimace crossing his face, and then stretches out on
a cot, folding his arms behind his head:: Good thing i ain't ever
been claustrophobic, anyway
YarnKittymon: LB: ::sits on the cot next to Jack's
wall; softly:: You shouldn't have, Jack.
Quantum Catz: JK: You think a whip scares me?
M'dad could do just as well with a belt
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: At least it'll be
done soon and we can get back to our lives...
YarnKittymon: LB: ::after a pause, still quietly::
I'm sure Toby will heal you when it's done with, Jack.
Quantum Catz: JK: Like i said, i ain't scared
of whips and besides ::smirks slightly:: There's nothin' a good
shot of dutch courage beforehand can't cure
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smiling weakly, though of
course Jack can't see that:: You happen to have some on you? Or
is that what you're going to ask the mayor about?
Quantum Catz: JK: Nope, but nothin like relying
on the kindness of your bloodthirsty spectators
YarnKittymon: LB: ::lays down; sighs:: I'm gettin'
too old for this.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::smirks:: What? Jail?
YarnKittymon: LB: The lot of it. I'm ready to
just settle down, get old and get it over with.
Quantum Catz: JK: Yer only as old as you want
to be - although pers'nly i could do without this crazy island
magic crap sometimes
YarnKittymon: LB: ::lightly:: But then you wouldn't
have me, would you?
Quantum Catz: JK: ::shrugs and smirks:: Wouldn't
still be here if you weren't - Don's an alright guy but he ain't
any reason to stick around on this island away from m'old mates
YarnKittymon: : ::before Libby can reply the
prison door opens and a well-dressed man in a full suit comes
in, smiling slightly and combing his hair back in the doorway;
it's the mayor, who's suddenly taken it upon himself to be involved
in the
YarnKittymon: town's affairs. He stands in front
of Jack's cell, far back enough that Jack couldn't reach him through
the bars, and smiles warmly:: You wished to see me?
Quantum Catz: JK: ::looks at the man for a moment
and then sits up:: Yeah, i did - i want to make a deal with you
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor smirks:: I'm not
sure you're in a position to be negotiating.
Quantum Catz: JK: Look, i ain't tryin' to get
out of anything, alright? I left the town cos i guess i figured
it was worth tryin' to help everyone. If you want to punish it,
fine - but i want to take the punishment - not Libby or Maeve
- you get all your lashings...you just get them all on me
YarnKittymon: LB: ::in a tiny, scared voice::
Jack...
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor looks rather taken
aback as well:: You...thought it was helping everyone, to flee
our town, in our time of need, endangering the lives of everyone
on the island, maybe the earth?
Quantum Catz: JK: Everyone's better now, aren't
they? Funny coincidence that
YarnKittymon: : I don't know about that. I just
know you were breaking the law, and the law doesn't have any place
for substitutions.
Quantum Catz: JK: I don't care about the law
- i kidnapped Libby and Maeve, dragged them off with me, if that's
what you need to believe - and it's not like you could ever say
Libby wasn't your usual pstanding citizen
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor frowns, then steps
back to Libby:: Did he really kidnap you?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looks down at the floor,
her back against the wall and her shoulders shaking; can't bring
herself to answer either way::
Quantum Catz: ((have i just got jack headin for
being blamed for kidnapping as well? oops ^^;; ))
YarnKittymon: ((LOL))
YarnKittymon: : ::rather sharply:: Well?
Quantum Catz: JK: Does it matter? Just let me
take her punishment
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor looks back at Jack,
glaring:: If you kidnapped two ladies--one of whom is still missing--that's
a bigger crime than even breaking quarantine.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::groans and lies back on the
bed:: Oh for God's sake, save the world from bloody politicians
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: I wasn't kidnapped.
I asked him to come with me, and he did. And if it weren't for
him you'd probably be sick in bed right now. If you should free
anyone, it's him.
Quantum Catz: JK: Libby...
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor smiles slightly::
Well, this is a little cute. Kind of a "Gift of the Magi"
thing going on.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::sharply:: Look...i ain't
the best of guys in the world but i don't like to think there
are people in power here who can decide to have a woman whipped
and not even flicnh at it. Don't you have a wife, a sister, a
daughter? Wou
Quantum Catz: ld you want that to happen to them
if ever they do somethin' wrong round here?
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor's expression changes
a little, as if Jack finally said something that hit home:: I
daresay Ella'd probably do something to deserve it...
Quantum Catz: JK: Well, deserving or not, i'd
rather take the pain myself than let someone i cared about take
it
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor looks down, away
from Jack:: It'll be 45 lashes. Even the Jews stopped at 39 when
they punished people.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::doesn't react to the number::
Fine
YarnKittymon: LB: ::gets tears in her eyes, and
jumps up to the bars of the cell, reaching an arm through towards
Jack's cell:: You can't do this, Jack!
Maeve Owens: ((does the 45 count maeve's lashes?))
Quantum Catz: JK: ::reaches through and takes
her hand, squeezing it:: It doesn't matter...pain i can deal with
Quantum Catz: ((yeah, that's what i was about
to ask ^_^))
YarnKittymon: ((Yeah, it does))
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor steps back, glancing
at the guard:: Let Miss Williamson go, then.
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard gets up quickly to
get the key::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: Are you sure?
Quantum Catz: JK: ::shrugs:: Well i ain't gonna
change my mind now. Go on, get out of here before they go changin
their minds
YarnKittymon: LB: ::lets go of Jack's hand so
the guard can open the cell door, then runs past to face Jack
with tears in her eyes; she grabs his hand again:: Thank you...
Quantum Catz: JK: ::smiles weakly:: What're the
odds that when Maeve finds out she ain't gonna be sensible enough
to be so grateful?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: I wouldn't take
that bet at 10 to 1.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::chuckles and then tilts his
head toward the door:: On you go - i guess i'll see you tomorrow
YarnKittymon: LB: ::cringes, turning rather pale;
softly:: I'll bring the Dutch courage, Jack. Take care...
Quantum Catz: JK: You too ::lies back down on
the bed::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::leaves, suddenly more sober
and nearly as frightened as she had been in her cell::
Quantum Catz: JK: ::turns slightly to look at
the mayor:: Thanks, mate. I don't much like the lashings thing
but i'd rather it was me than her or Maeve
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor looks rather taken-aback;
quietly:: I never would've taken you for a gentleman, Jack.
Quantum Catz: JK: It ain't the act of a gentleman
to not want to see a woman hurt - it's the act of a *decent* man
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor frowns, reaching
into one of his suit pockets; a little drily:: It'll make a better
show anyway.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::doesn't reply::
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor shakes his head,
pulling a cigarette out of his pocket, then pauses, looking back
at Jack:: You want one?
Quantum Catz: JK: No thanks
YarnKittymon: ::the mayor nods, turning to go::
Until tomorrow, then.
Quantum Catz: JK: ::wryly:: Guess so
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor leaves::
New chat room entered at
6/20/04 1:55:01 PM.
You are now in chat room Window
number 2.
Maeve Owens has entered the chat room.
Quantum Catz has entered the chat room.
YarnKittymon: ::meanwhile::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::is trying to find her way
back towards Edusa and the others:::
YarnKittymon: : ::Maeve fairly stumbles into
a guard as she's trying to find a path in the forest; the guard
looks more surprised than anything else::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::her eyes widen in surprise
and she hesitates for a split second before taking off running:::
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard gives chase, running
every bit as fast as her, and swinging his club:: Hey, wait!
Maeve Owens: MV: :::she glances over her shoulder
for a moment, the sight of the club making her turn slightly pale.
She forces her legs to carry her even faster.::::
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard slows down just slightly,
hoping to tire her before he gets out of breath himself::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::she keeps running, her eyes
darting around, searching for Edusa, her attention not completely
focussed on the ground before her:::
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard yells:: Look out
for that log!
Maeve Owens: MV: :::she had seen the log but
his sudden shout startls her. Her left foot doesn't quite clear
the top of it and it sends her crashing to the ground:::
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard catches up to her
rather easily now, hauling her up by her arm:: Come on, now.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::struggles to wrestle her
arm free::: You can't take me back! I've got to find someone.
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard can't help but laugh,
though Maeve's strong enough, he almost loses his grip:: Right;
Mr. Whip and Mrs. Jail Cell. I'll take you to them right away.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::she glares at him, one fireball
forms in her hand she attempts to burn the hand holding her:::
No, someone who can prove we helped stop everyone from dying.
Let go.
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard yells letting go
of Maeve, but swings his club at her head::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::the club hits her hard enough
to knock her down:::
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard hauls Maeve up again,
trying to make her walk:: Come on now.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::moans, feeling the spot
on her head where he hit her::: DId you have to hit me? :::she
walks but she doesn't make it easy for him to hold on to her:::
YarnKittymon: : You were trying to run away,
miss, and you nearly burned my hand clean off!
Maeve Owens: MV: :::smirks::: Thats a bit much
of an exagerration but I cant have you hauling me back to town
and ruin any chance of our names being cleared now can I?
YarnKittymon: : What's this talk about clearing
names, anyway?
Maeve Owens: MV: Like you'd believe me. :::gasps:::
Look, whats that? :::points off to their right:::
YarnKittymon: : ::the man looks, though holding
Maeve's arm that much tighter as he turns his head::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::stomps on his foot to get
him to release her:::
YarnKittymon: : ::the man yells, letting go of
Maeve::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::takes off running:::
YarnKittymon: : ::the man runs after her, but
slower this time, with a bit of a limp::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::::she suddenly feels something
clamp around her left foot, jerking her backwards. She slides
to the ground, turning to see what caught her foot. She tugs to
free herself but cries out when it tightens around her foot, digging
into her flesh:::
YarnKittymon: : ::a few minutes later the guard
finally catches up, whistling when he sees Maeve trapped:: This
is a bit of luck...not sure if it's bad or good...
Maeve Owens: MV: :::stares at him coldly:::
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard leans down:: What
say I just leave you here 'til I get some backup?
Maeve Owens: MV: I'd say you'd be walking away
with some burnt clothes.
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard frowns:: Well, don't
struggle; you're just making it worse. ::approaches carefully::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::she stays still, smirking
at the fact that he seems to be slightly scared of her:::
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard pulls up on a wooden
pin that's planted rather deeply into the ground:: That's all
we have to get loose, but it's not coming...
Maeve Owens: MV: :::looks rather worried:::
What do you mean its not coming? I'm not going to be stuck here!
:::suddenly reaches over to help him:::
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard cringes, moving his
hand away from Maeve's::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::glares at him while tugging
on the pin and trying to bite back the pain of moving her foot:::
Dont be such a wimp.
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard glares at Maeve,
then suddenly digs the grass away from the wooden pin about a
foot in diameter:: You can burn it away, can't you?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::forms a fireball and attempts
to do just that:::
YarnKittymon: : ::the wood singes beautifully,
not quite catching on fire, but quickly becoming weak and brittle
so that it snaps, loosing the wire snare::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::pulls it off her foot and
then moves to stand up:::
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard helps her, frowning::
You need that bandaged?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::looks down at her foot:::
I'm fine. You still insisting on throwing me in a jail cell?
YarnKittymon: : Even fate itself seems to want
you in a jail cell, from the trouble you keep getting into.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::her head snaps up to look
at him, her eyes cold::: I haven't been in *that* much trouble
on this island.
YarnKittymon: : Well, you tripped and got caught
in a rabbit trap; that's a fair amount of trouble, isn't it?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::rather sarcastically:::
At least I didn't fall for the oldest trick in the book.
YarnKittymon: : "Look out for that log"
is that trick's cousin, you know.
Maeve Owens: MV: I wouldn't give yourself too
much credit, your shout startled me, thats all.
YarnKittymon: : ::the man doesn't reply, looking
down::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::briefly contemplates attempting
another escape but figures she'd only end up in more trouble.
She resigns herself to her fate, sighing deeply, and allows him
to lead her back to town:::
YarnKittymon: : ::as they approach town, the
guard speaks, softly:: I'm sorry for this. Most the town's with
you.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::angrily, and looking none
to happy either::: Except we didn't leave to avoid getting sick.
YarnKittymon: : ::softly:: I wish I believed
you. ::heads towards the jail::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::starts to get nervous the
closer they get, her stride slowing significantly:::
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard murmurs:: Fifteen
lashes never killed anybody. ::holds Maeve firmly with his good
arm while using the burned one to unlock the jail door::
Maeve Owens: MV: Perhaps not but its the principle
of the matter.
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard throws the door open
and drags Maeve in, slamming the door noisily behind him::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::puts up a little resistance
being in no hurry to be locked away:::
YarnKittymon: : ::the other guard gets up from
his desk:: Hey, Mark, that's Maeve Owens, right?
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard nods, rather proudly::
And I brought her in all by myself.
YarnKittymon: : ::shakes his head:: Let her go.
This fella's taking her licks for her.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::glaring at the guard holding
her::: If it wasn't for that trap I would have been long gone!
::::her eyes snap over to the other one::: And what do you mean
takiing hte licks for me?
Quantum Catz: JK: ::raises an arm in a half-wave
without looking up:: ou're free, Maeve, just leave it at that
Maeve Owens: MV: :::her eyes snap over to Jack
and she glances around::: Wheres Libby?
Quantum Catz: JK: At home now, i guess
Maeve Owens: MV: :::her eyes widen::; Are you
out of your mind?!
Quantum Catz: JK: Nope. Go home, Maeve...or go
check on Libby...
Maeve Owens: MV: :::rather stunned::: Jack...
Quantum Catz: JK: Just go already, Maeve - it's
sorted and it'll be over by tomorrow
Maeve Owens: MV: Except I dont want you taking
my so called punishment for me. :::turning to the guards::: And
if the mayor is about I'd like to tell him just what I think about
his punishing methods.
YarnKittymon: : ::the guard who brought Maeve
in tries to mask his disappointment with a sneer:: And you don't
get a choice to hang around here either. Off you go! ::he forces
her out of the jail::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::she resists his efforts
to force her out::: Get your hands off of me before I make your
good hand match its mate!
YarnKittymon: : ::the man just rolls his eyes,
murmuring something under his breath:: Sam, a little help?
YarnKittymon: : ::the other guard laughs slightly::
I thought you brought her in all by yourself.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::grins rather evily::: He'd
like to think so but it was merely luck I got caught in a trap.
Either way I can leave on my own thank you.
YarnKittymon: : ::Mark looks at Maeve coldly::
You'd best watch yourself. You aren't always gonna have a gentleman
to take the fall for you.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::angrily::: And no one would
be taking a fall if you would have left me alone to do what I
was going to do!
YarnKittymon: : ::Mark glares:: You're free *now,*
aren't you? Go jump in a river for all I care.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::gives him one last cold
look before turning on her heel and marching out the door, and
trying to ignore the cuts on her ankle:::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::she's walking down the street,
a slight limp in her step, with a determined look on her face.
She's heading straight for the mayor:::
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor's house is the nicest
one in town, two-story, and brick, with a front porch; it's rather
too large for one man, but aside from the occasional party he
lives there alone; the door is closed, but a couple windows open
YarnKittymon: to let the air circulate::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::she doesn't hesitate to
walk straight up to the porch and pound loudly on the front door:::
YarnKittymon: : ::there's a noise of footfalls
inside, but no one opens the door or speaks::
Maeve Owens: MV: I know you're in there! :::pounds
on it again::: Open up!
YarnKittymon: : ::there's still no answer::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::pounds on it again:: Come
on, I really don't feel up to breaking into a house today.
YarnKittymon: : ::a sharp voice comes from inside::
If you break it down I'll have you arrested for good!
Maeve Owens: MV: :::clears her throat then forces
her voice to sound sweet and friendly::: Its just that I would
like to speak with you about you're choice of punishments.
YarnKittymon: : ::drily:: I didn't get to be
mayor by being stupid, and I'm not going to make it to be governor
if I let you in, Miss Owens.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::smirks::: Do you honestly
think I am *stupid* enough to kill the mayor?
YarnKittymon: : Maim, perhaps, or take as hostage.
No, thank you, Miss Owens.
Maeve Owens: MV: Fine. Then would you kindly
explain to me why you think *whipping* someone would be a suitable
punishment for merely breaking quarantine? A few months in jail
seems to be a little more ethical.
YarnKittymon: : ::a little sarcastically:: Well,
who's to say he wouldn't break jail like he broke quarantine?
And besides, I think he'd prefer it to be over quickly.
Maeve Owens: MV: That still doesn't excuse the
inhumane nature of the ruling. You were about to have the same
thing done to both me and Libby. Makes a person wonder what kind
of a man they have holding the mayors position.
YarnKittymon: : The word came down from Gate
Town. Take it up with them if you like.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::is rather speechless for
a moment::: Still, you could have fought it. What about Jack?
You've given him my lashings yet you hadn't even caught me yet.
How can punishment be decided and ruled on if the guilty party
is still mi
Maeve Owens: ssing?
YarnKittymon: : ::incredulously:: You really
*want* to be whipped until your black is bloody?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::smirks::: I'm pretty confident
that wont happen since you've released me. Cant very well go back
on that now can you?
YarnKittymon: : Well, you're right about that.
He's taking the stripes for you and you'll just have to live with
it.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::shakes her head::: No, its
not right. He should by rights only get 30. I wasn't present to
give my consent. I should have at least had some say in it.
YarnKittymon: : And you don't. It won't kill
him; if it even looks close I'll pardon him and be a hero.
Maeve Owens: MV: Not in my eyes you wont. At
any rate this isn't over. :::she turns on her heel and walks away
from the house, still limping slightly:::
YarnKittymon: DN: ::Daniel is suddenly sniffing
at Maeve's heels; meows:: You're bloody.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::jumps about ten feet in
the air and then cries out when she lands on her injured foot.
Once she recovers she glances down at the cat::: Goodness Daniel,
you scared me to death. Where'd you come from?
YarnKittymon: DN: Toby said I could go out. Are
you gonna get whipped?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::shakes her head::: No, and
neither will Jack if I can prevent it.
YarnKittymon: DN: ::hisses briefly:: Who're you
gonna fight?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::laughs::: No one, I hope.
I have to go speak with Libby because I am going to need her help
to do it. :::limps off towards Libby's house:::
YarnKittymon: DN: ::follows her, sniffing:: You're
still bleeding a little.
Maeve Owens: MV: Yeah I know but I don't have
the time to deal with it right now.
YarnKittymon: DN: But if there's any wolves around
they'll smell you and eat you up!
Maeve Owens: MV: :::laughs::: Wolves are scared
of fire so I think I'm safe from them.
YarnKittymon: DN: ::mrrs, still not satisfied::
YarnKittymon: : ::aside from Daniel's asking
questions, nothing else pesters Maeve on her way to Libby's::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::she gets to Libby's house
and knocks on the door:::
YarnKittymon: : ::it's a couple minutes before
Libby answers; she looks like she's been crying, but politely
says:: Good to see you again, Maeve.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::smiles::: Nice to see you
aren't stuck in jail. However, we have to stop them from whipping
Jack. The mayor wont listen to reason but if we could get Edusa
to let them see *why* we left then maybe he'll put a stop to this
nons
Maeve Owens: ense.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::nods instantly:: I was about
to have a bath but I suppose there's no sense in that now. ::more
soberly:: I doubt it'll work, but we don't have any choice but
to try. I'm not sure we can make it in time, though.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::grumbles::: If I hadn't
been caught then this might all be over with.
YarnKittymon: DN: ::helpfully:: She's bleeding.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looks down at Maeve's ankle::
Caught by *what*?
Maeve Owens: MV: I kind of got lost on my way
there and was found by one of the guards. ::::glances at Daniel,
smirking::: And thank you so much for pointing that out. :::the
wound is still bleeding a little and theres a trail of blood disappear
Maeve Owens: ing into her shoe:::
YarnKittymon: LB: For pity's sake, Maeve; get
in here! I'll bandage it, at least, unless you want me to fetch
Toby.
Maeve Owens: MV: That would take too long. We
don't have enough time.
YarnKittymon: LB: If you're limping we'll move
awfully slowly, Maeve.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::not looking at all pleased:::
Okay, then lets go fetch Toby.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::nods silently, and goes back
inside to get a bottle filled with water, then leaves the house,
locking the door behind her:: I wish Becky were here; this'd be
so much easier...
Maeve Owens: MV: She still hasn't come back?
YarnKittymon: LB: I don't know if something's
happened to her, or...::shakes her head, walking quickly towards
Becky's house, where Toby's still living::
Maeve Owens: MV: Maybe she's just mad at Toby.
:::her voice slowly fades off as she thinks about some of the
things Paelith said:::
YarnKittymon: LB: If that were it, she could've
at least said 'goodbye' to *me.* ::looks rather hurt, but tries
to hide it, and knocks loudly on Becky's door::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::sofly::: true...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::answers, looking pretty tired;
half-smiles down at Daniel:: So that's where you ran off to.
YarnKittymon: DN: ::meows:: Maeve's bleeding.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::tries not to laugh::: Daniel's
afraid I'm going to be eaten by wolves.
YarnKittymon: TY: ::kneels next to Maeve to examine
her ankle:: There's no wolves around here, Daniel. ::stands again::
Come inside and sit down, Maeve, so you don't fall while I'm doing
it.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::limps inside::: Didn't want
to bother you but we have to make good time if we plan to make
it to our destination.
YarnKittymon: TY: Get your shoe off; if I'm gonna
heal Jack tomorrow I can't be wasting my energy re-forming anything
but your skin. What destination?
Maeve Owens: MV: If we make it in time you wont
have to. :::slips off her shoe, wincing in pain::: Where I was
headed before I fell into a trap and siezed by a guard with a
large ego.
YarnKittymon: TY: Oh. ::gently touches Maeve's
wound to get a feel for it, not healing anything yet::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: Toby, if we don't
make it back in time, see that Jack gets some whiskey or something
before they start, and explain what we've done. I promised I'd
bring him some....
YarnKittymon: TY: ::nods; glances up at Maeve::
Ready?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::nods, stealing herself against
the pain:::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::takes a deep breath, then
sets to work, carefully restoring Maeve's muscles and skin molecule
by molecule, painfully, until they're as good as new::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::grits her teeth, one small
whimper slipping past her lips before he's done.:::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::nods to Maeve when he's done::
You're all set.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::smiles::: Thanks Toby. :::gets
up and heads towards the door:::
YarnKittymon: TY: Be careful, you two.
Maeve Owens: MV: Always. :::grins:::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::groans lightly:: Seriously;
I'm running out of friends in town.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::smiles::: Don't worry. It
turns out well in the end right?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::shakes his head:: I don't
know.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: Come on, Maeve.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::nods to Libby::: By Toby,
we'll see you when we get back. :::heads out the door:::
YarnKittymon: DL: ::sees Maeve and Libby on their
way out of town, and no matter how guilty he's feeling, he feels
he has to see Maeve, and approaches her quietly::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::smiles a little apprehensively
at Donald but makes no move to strike up a conversation:::
YarnKittymon: DL: ::rather quietly:: I...I'm
glad you're back safe.
Maeve Owens: MV: Safe yes, back...well not quite.
Just leaving actually. We don't really have time to talk.
YarnKittymon: DL: You don't have to leave town
now, Maeve. ::looks rather ashamed::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::frowns:: Why the guilty
face? And we're not leaving town forever. Just have to see someone
about getting Jack off the hook. :::she's still walking:::
YarnKittymon: DL: ::walking alongside them::
Jack's the one who's rescued you; I wish I could do something.
Maeve Owens: MV: Which is another reason why
there is no way Jack is going to take my half of the lashings
and theres nothing for you to do. We're just going to talk to
some people.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::she ads softly::: And Jack
wouldn't have been there at all if it wasn't for you.
YarnKittymon: DL: ::just looks rather downcast;
can't think of anything to say::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::walks along quietly, chancing
a look at Libby to gage her reaction to Donald's presence:::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::has a look not unlike she'd
have if they were being accompanied by a dog that had recently
rooted through several cans of garbage:: We don't need your help,
Donald.
YarnKittymon: DL: ::glances back at Maeve::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::smiles, not wanting to cause
any unneeded tension::: We'll be okay, no need for you to trouble
yourself.
YarnKittymon: DL: ::quietly:: I'd do worse than
trouble myself for you, Maeve.
Maeve Owens: MV: Then why don't you stick around
here? If we don't make it back in time see if you can delay the
lashing? That would probably help us the most.
YarnKittymon: DL: ::looks rather surprised::
Is that really what you want?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::glances back at Libby:::
YarnKittymon: LB: You'd just slow us down here
anyway. Go keep Jack company if you like.
YarnKittymon: DL: ::frowns:: Maeve, if something
happens to you, I don't know what I'd do...
Maeve Owens: MV: Nothing is going to happen.
YarnKittymon: DL: Something *always* happens
when you go out.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::laughs, thinking of her
adventure today.::: Yeah but I only come back with a few scratches
and a bump on the head. Nothing serious. :::grins::: Cant say
the same for anyone else though.
YarnKittymon: DL: ::takes Maeve's hand; softly::
Be careful, then.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::smiles::: I will.
YarnKittymon: DL: ::looks at her for another
few moments, then stands by and lets them leave::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::walks quickly to get past
Donald, looking relieved when they've passed him::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::after a while, and once
Donald is out of earshot, she breaks the silence with a tentive
question: Uh, Libby? Hypothetically speaking, lets say if something
were to happen and I ended up :::she pauses to force the words
out::: marrying Donald... would you hate me? Most likely
never speak to me again?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::eyes widen:: Do you really
love him?
Maeve Owens: MV: Lets say I *might* in the future.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::frowns:: That's not exactly
what I asked, Maeve.
Maeve Owens: MV: I think I might have before
and once I get over the trust issues I will. At least thats what
I guess. :::looks rather thoughtful:::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: I'd think you a
fool, Maeve, but we'd still be friends.
Maeve Owens: MV: ::sighs, looking rather relieved
but it quickly fades:: What if say we had a son but neither me
nor Donald survived to see his fifth birthday, and not saying
that Toby wouldn't make a great uncle but you'd be the next logical
choice since my sister is no longer around. Or would you just
flat out refuse? Since it was Donald's?
YarnKittymon: LB: What are you talking about,
Maeve?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::shrugs, trying to make it
seem like its not important::: Nothing, just curious is all.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: I'd do anything
you needed me to, Maeve; you know that, don't you?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::nods::: But do you think
you would have? If we had never had this conversation and it happened?
YarnKittymon: LB: If I were still in town, of
course I would. Unless someone else wanted to.
Maeve Owens: MV: So if Toby were to volunteer
first you'd just let him? Which is fine. Would be absolutely wonderful.
:::smiles:::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::blinks:: Toby? He's a great
fella but I don't know that he's father material.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::rubs her temple; sadly:::
Oh.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: What *is* it, Maeve?
What's the matter?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::smiles::: Just promise me
you wont do anything stupid to get yourself killed? I'm kind of
tired of having people I care about die off or leave me all together.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: You know you're
going to die?
Maeve Owens: MV: ::::frowns::: Becky say something
to you?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::eyes widen:: No, but the
way you were talking it's more than a little obvious!
Maeve Owens: MV: Oh. And here I thought I'd
fooled ya with the hypothetically speaking. :::laughs a little
nervously:::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looks rather troubled:: So
you're saying once you marry Donald you're going to die? Why would
you even *want* to, then?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::sadly::: It may have nothing
to do with him. I'm sure I have enough enemies in my past. Anyways,
we probably shouldnt talk about it. :::laughs:: I'm confused as
it is.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: Do you know when?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::shakes her head::: No.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::sighs:: So there's nothing
we can do, except line up who'll take care of your child once
you're gone?
Maeve Owens: MV: :::smirks::: If there even
is one this time at the rate I'm going.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::trying to smile:: Well, it
sounds like you have more years in you than some of us had expected...
Maeve Owens: MV: :::laughs::: Glad I can prove
you somewhat wrong.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: I guess I need to
be the one to tell you to be careful, though.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::her expression turns sad
once again::: Or I should tell you again since... well... yeah.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: I'm not going anywhere;
I promise.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::nods, although she still
doesn't look too sure:::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::is silent for a few minutes;
then, softly:: You probably think *I'm* mad anyway.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::frowns:: Why would I think
that?/
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: You've seen who
*I'm* crazy over, and he's not even sorry for being a criminal.
Maeve Owens: MV: Oh. :::pauses::: Well, it doesn't
seem like he's in much of a hurry to return to his thieving ways.
:::tries to suppress a grin::: Wouldn't be better to think of
him for who he is now then what he was in that past?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smirks slightly:: He's not
sorry, though. I suppose maybe he's true to himself, but still...::shakes
her head:: Anyway, it doesn't matter; I'm completely mad over
him.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::grins::: Yeah, I could tell.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looks down at her water bottle,
sighing:: But I'm not sure he's the type to settle down.
Maeve Owens: MV: Well, you're the only reason
he's stuck around on this island. I think thats a pretty good
sign that he may be willing to for you.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smiles slightly:: I'm pretty
sure he loves me, never mind that he's not the type to *say* it.
But the "M" word can scare the bravest man away.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::shrugs::: You never know,
sometimes they tend to surprise ya.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::grins, though she doesn't
look like she really means it:: And so what if he doesn't? It's
not so bad to die alone--better than picking the wrong man, at
any rate.
Maeve Owens: MV: Yep, sure don't want to be
stuck with the wrong guy. And if you still have friends around
you then you're not technically dying *alone* which is definitely
better than no one.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::weakly, only half-smiling::
Until you and Donald get married and have a dozen children to
take care of.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::laughs::: Only one actually
and who knows, I'm probably gonna need all the help I can get
which means I'm gonna have to recruit someone. :::looks at her
grinning:::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smirks:: I'm not so fond
of kids myself. If it came down to it, you should ask Becky; she
works with them....::trails off rather soberly at the end of the
sentence::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::sofly::: I never saw myself
as mother really so it was all kind of a shock and I'm pretty
sure Becky comes back. Eventually.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly, still a bit downcast::
It's different, when they're *yours,* I've heard.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::frowns::: In fact I still
cant see it happening. It just sounds weird to me. I guess I have
to carry on the family tradition of being murdered and leaving
children behind to fend for themselves. Hopefully the bad luck
ends with me.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::turns away, frowning:: You're
worthless, Maeve.
Maeve Owens: MV: I know.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::sighs; quickly:: That's not
what I meant. It's just...what's the point in being determined
that everything's going to work out so badly? If that's true you
might as well jump off a pier for the insurance money.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::gives her a questioning
look::: Well... I have it on good authority that life is pretty
good up until then :::smiles at her::: Besides, pills dont hurt
as much not that I'd give in just like that and let fate have
its way.
YarnKittymon: LB: Pills aren't likely to look
like an *accident,* though. ::sighs::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::frowns::: When were you
about to jump off a bridge?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: I was sure someone
had told you. I used to be rather wealthy.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::shakes her head::: No, no
one ever told me that. :::smiles::: I'm glad you didn't.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looks away, not replying::
Maeve Owens: MV; What? You wish you had?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::quickly:: No! And certainly
not for my *mother.* ::grimaces::
Maeve Owens: MV: :::frowns::: Okay.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::after a pause:: There's no
point in talking about it anyway.
Maeve Owens: MV: Are you sure? Cause you still
seem a little upset.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::looks back at Maeve, rather
fiercely:: I came about five breaths away from *dying* to ensure
my mother and brother would be taken care of, and she didn't care
one bit! Just married Alex's father when she sunk her claws into
him!
Maeve Owens: MV: :::blinks::: Five breaths away?
What stopped you?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::is quiet for a long time,
then, softly:: The last man I'd fallen in love with.
Maeve Owens: MV: Oh?
YarnKittymon: LB: So you're not the only one
unlucky at love.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::grins:: The first guy that
saved my life held that over my head as leverage. That and several
other things. So what did this guy do to break you're heart?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: Adultery.
Maeve Owens: MV: :::looks a little surprised:::
Ethan? That must have happened shortly before I showed up then?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::nods, silently::
Maeve Owens: MV: I'm sorry Libby. I hope it
works out for you and Jack.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::shrugs; quietly:: Me too.
YarnKittymon: : ::the two women continue on rather
quietly for quite a while, apparently having no plan other than
to walk around towards where they last saw Edusa in the hopes
of finding her::
Quantum Catz: : ::as they're walking they hear
someone moving quickly towards them::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::stops still in the path,
then backs away towards the edge, looking ahead nervously, though
the odds of someone wicked coming towards them are probably pretty
low::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she pauses, her eyes fixed
on the path in front of her::
Quantum Catz: EU: ::as the person gets closer,
they realise it's Edusa, although she hasn't noticed them yet::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::recognizes the young woman
ahead; returns to the center of the path:: Hey!
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she relaxes and moves towards
Edusa:: Just the person we were looking for. ::smiles::
Quantum Catz: EU: ::smiles weakly:: Well, i was
kind of looking for you too
YarnKittymon: LB: ::softly:: Jack's in jail,
and he's going to be whipped if we don't do something...
Maeve Owens: MV: We were hoping that you might
be able to help the mayor see what went on...
Quantum Catz: EU: ::looks down:: Yeah...Ciama...well...i
don't know if they'll change their minds but i said i wanted to
come and try
YarnKittymon: LB: ::smiles:: Thank you. What
do you plan to do?
Quantum Catz: EU: ::shrugs:: I could show what
happened to your mayor in his dreams...though some people are
very good at dismissing dreams...otherwise i need to be closer
to him to show him while he's awake
Maeve Owens: MV: ::grumbles:: Hope you dont
need to be face to face cause if you do, good luck, he likes to
hide behind closed doors.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::laughs weakly, then sobers::
But what if he doesn't care about the truth?
Quantum Catz: EU: ::doesn't look Libby in the
eye:: Then there's nothing else my powers can do
Maeve Owens: MV: He probably doesn't... the
man doesn't have much of a heart.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::slowly:: Can you lie to him
in a dream?
Maeve Owens: MV: ::grins:: I told him I'd find
a way to get him out of office if he carried through with his
plan...
Quantum Catz: EU: ::hesitates:: I can show what
I need to be shown...
YarnKittymon: LB: Well, maybe the truth will
do. There's only one way to find out. ::smiles slightly at Edusa,
then turns around to go back towards Marquis::
Quantum Catz: EU: ::nods and follows Libby::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::turns on her heel and follows
the other two:::
YarnKittymon: : ::it's pretty late by the time
they make it back to Marquis, and Libby, at least, is pretty tired::
Quantum Catz: EU: ::is quiet most of the way
to town, although she doesn't appear too tired::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::near exaustion from all of
her adventures in the forest:::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::very softly:: How near do
you need to be?
Quantum Catz: EU: Not very to reach him in his
dreams
YarnKittymon: LB: ::nods:: My house is just a
few blocks from his, if you'd like to try there.
Quantum Catz: EU: Okay
YarnKittymon: LB: ::goes to her house silently
and unlocks the door::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she follows behind them,
looking like she could slump over and go to sleep any minute::
Quantum Catz: EU: ::sits down on a chair in Libby's
living room, closing her eyes and searching to see if the mayor
is asleep::
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor isn't asleep::
Quantum Catz: EU: ::opens her eyes and looks
up at Libby:: He's still awake
YarnKittymon: LB: But you said you could show
him while he was awake?
Quantum Catz: EU: It's easier when someone's
asleep but i should be close enough to try ::closes her eyes and
attempts to project her memories of what happened with her father::
YarnKittymon: : ::Edusa can feel that the mayor's
disturbed--though it's hard to tell how much comes from the vision::
Quantum Catz: EU: ::tries to focus on seeing
if her vision has affected his decision over Jack before she stops,
although she isn't sure if she'll be able to know for certain
until or unless he makes some kind of action to prevent the punishment:
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she walks over and sinks
down into Libby's couch before she loses her battle to stand upright.
She leans back and closes her eyes::
YarnKittymon: : ::Edusa can tell the mayor's
having another drink, and she gets the distinct feeling he's still
going to go through with it, though she can't be certain::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::leans down next to Maeve;
yawning; softly:: Go ahead and lay down if you like.
Quantum Catz: EU: ::sighs and opens her eyes,
not looking at Libby or Maeve:: I don't...i don't think it changed
his mind
Maeve Owens: MV: ::not expecting someone to
be that close, her eyes pop open suddenly and her breath hitches
a little. Maeve's eyes snap over to Edusa when she speaks:: Would
you mind trying to show him what might happen to him if he doesnt?
YarnKittymon: LB: ::nods:: Please?
Quantum Catz: EU: Like what?
Maeve Owens: MV: He really wants to move up
in office... kind of worried about not making it I think. ::yawns::
Quantum Catz: EU: ::Frowns:: You think that would
change his mind?
YarnKittymon: LB: It might...
Maeve Owens: MV: ::shrugs:: I have no idea but
thats all I got. ::glances over at Libby:: Well, anything that
wouldn't be considered to evil anyway.
Quantum Catz: EU: ::closes her eyes again and
tries to suggest to the mayor that his punishment for Jack could
affect his chances of being promoted::
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor's imagination seems
to run away with him, past Edusa's suggestions, as he envisions
being run out of town for having a man whipped on Sunday, getting
beaten up by Jack, and various other rather unlikely occurences::
Quantum Catz: EU: ::can't help but smile a bit
at the mayor's more unlikely scenarios though she keeps pushing
to try and make sure he thinks it's a bad idea to go through with
it::
YarnKittymon: : ::the mayor finally yells, aloud::
Stop!
Quantum Catz: EU: ::is surprised by his reaction
and pulls away, her body jerking as she opens her eyes::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::quickly:: Are you all right?
Quantum Catz: EU: He shouted for me to stop,
it surprised me - he's certainly imagined things that could go
bad for him if he goes through with it....although whether that
makes him stop...
YarnKittymon: LB: ::frowns, then, more brightly::
Maybe if he tries to go through with it you could warn him again?
Quantum Catz: EU: I could try - although i don't
know what he'd do if i was too close and he somehow realised it
was me
Maeve Owens: MV: ::flatly:: We could start a
protest.
YarnKittymon: LB: ::frowns; slowly:: I'm sure
Jack wouldn't want you to get in trouble for him.
Quantum Catz: EU: ::shrugs:: I can still try
though - i just won't push too hard...
YarnKittymon: LB: ::nods, still frowning:: Then
I guess we've nothing to do but wait. You can have my bed tonight.
Quantum Catz: EU: That's okay - i've been stuck
up a tree for ages - i don't need a bed to be able to sleep
YarnKittymon: LB: ::after a moment:: I wonder
if Jack's asleep. Maybe they'd let me visit again...
Maeve Owens: MV: ::yawns::
Quantum Catz: EU: ::quickly checks to see if
he is asleep:: No, he's awake....
YarnKittymon: LB: ::nods, walking towards the
door:: Then I'll be back in a bit. There's blankets in the hall
closet if you need any, and really, it's fine if you take my bed.
I doubt I'll be sleeping much anyway.
Quantum Catz: EU:: Yeah, okay ::yawns and leans
back in her chair::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::she gets up, stretching::
I guess I'll see you guys in the morning. ::smiles::
YarnKittymon: LB: ::nods:: Good night, both of
you. ::yawns, and then heads out to see Jack::
Maeve Owens: MV: ::heads out with Libby, but
turns towards her own house::
