YarnKittymon: TY: ::comes down the path from
Marquis to the orphanage in (whatever bloody town that was; I
forgot :P ); "careening" would be a good word, because
he's riding a bicycle somewhere squarely between a 1920s and 1990s
model, faster than is good for him, and without
a helmet or pads...he *is* making good time, though::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::it's near the end of Becky's
shift at the orphanage and she's outside playing playing 'tag'
with some of the children, stopping with a tree between her and
one of the younger children and movng from one side to the other
as if trying to get round them. the child's laughing and quite
enjoying trying to grab her and Becky seems quite at home as well::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::slows to a crawl when he
approaches the orphanage, in case a stray child should run ahead
of his wheels; he waits at the edge of the grounds, smiling to
see Becky enjoying the children's company::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::suddenly vanishes and reappears
behind the small boy, tickling him at first and then picking him
up and spinning him around, the boy laughing and saying 'faster'
as she does, though she stops and puts him down, smiling, when
she sees Toby::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::grins at Becky:: Don't let
me interrupt; I'm not jealous. Besides, I like the games we play
better, anyway.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::smirks:: I'm sure you do
::kneels down beside the boy and points at a young girl:: Look,
Sophie's not watching, why don't you see if you can catch her?
::the boy laughs and runs off, quite happy to keep playing while
becky talks::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::still smiling:: I guess you
had fun, then.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::smiles:: Rarest thing in
the world for some people to find a job they actually enjoy
YarnKittymon: TY: ::grins, then, more soberly::
I guess I couldn't've, on the mainland...
Quantum Catz: BM: ::walks closer to Toby so that
she can turn and still keep an eye on the children:: I'm sure
you'd've found something - you could've always tried acting ::grins::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::laughs:: There's no money
in that...although I guess I don't need money anyway, really.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::smiles:: Money isn't that
important anyway, as long as you make enough to get by
YarnKittymon: TY: ::nods, smiling:: True enough...but
if I never acted in Libby's play, why do you think I would've
acted somewhere else?
Quantum Catz: BM: Just didn't have long enough
to be convinced, that's all ::smirks:: How could you have ignored
the cute alien outfits?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::grins:: Okay, I'll give you
that. ::suddenly drops his smile; grumbling:: She doesn't pick
the best times, sometimes...
Quantum Catz: BM: ::her smile fades slightly::
There's paper and stuff in the orphanage if you want it
YarnKittymon: TY: ::shakes his head; pulls a
couple rocks out of his pocket and makes what he needs:: Shouldn't
be too long. ::sits down::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::looks a bit guilty for a
moment as he's looking down at the rocks, then turns to focus
on the children, teleporting over to separate a couple who're
arguing over who's 'it'::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::holds the pencil over the
paper, but doesn't write much; Christa's probably pretty calm;
it takes about ten minutes before she's done, leaving Toby with
a strange expression on his face::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::is kneeling on the ground,
talking to the children, one of whom's burst into tears and wrapped
her arms around Becky's neck::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::doesn't interrupt, though
something in his gaze seems a bit sad::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::finally the girl stops crying
and runs off, actually looking quite happy after speaking to Becky,
and Becky stands up, moving back to Toby:: All done?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::turns away; softly:: Yeah.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::uncertainly:: Um...i should,
um, get the kids back inside, it's nearly their dinner time
YarnKittymon: TY: ::nods, glancing back at Becky
with an unreadable expression:: I'll wait.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::quickly hides a worried expression
over what Christa said, and turns away. She takes about quarter
of an hour to gather all of the kids together, the time lengthened
by the fact that a couple of them don't want her to go. But she
soon comes out of the building, pulling on her coat as she walks,
rather hesitantly::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::still doesn't look right
at Becky:: How're we getting back?
Quantum Catz: BM: ::shrugs:: I probably couldn't
teleport...i used that a lot while i was playing with the kids...
YarnKittymon: TY: I can walk my bike.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::smiles slightly:: Okay
YarnKittymon: TY: ::picks his bike up from the
grass and starts back towards Marquis; looks at Becky:: Oliver's
dead.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::looks down; softly:: Well,
he would be, wouldn't he? He said there was nothing the doctors
could do...
YarnKittymon: TY: He died before me and Christa
even got out of the lab. Weren't you hoping for a miracle?
Quantum Catz: BM: :sadly:: Miracles don't happen
too often though
YarnKittymon: TY: ::looks suddenly upset:: She
said worse stuff was coming...and she wouldn't say what...
Quantum Catz: BM: ::hesitates then says:: I guess
we'll deal with it when it happens
YarnKittymon: TY: ::turns away:: She asked you
to come back. I guess she doesn't think *I* can stop it, whatever's
coming.
Quantum Catz: BM: Come back?
YarnKittymon: TY: She said maybe she could convince
you this time. I'll...ask her to tell me, but I doubt she will...she
said she couldn't even find when Maeve was killed...
Quantum Catz: BM: ::doesn't reply::
YarnKittymon: TY: What if...what if it's really
bad? What if a bunch of people die?
Quantum Catz: BM: ::wearily:: I guess...they'll
die
YarnKittymon: TY: You already had this conversation
with her, didn't you?
Quantum Catz: BM: ::hesitates, not sure how to
reply without either lying or prompting an argument; although
she looks a bit guilty::
YarnKittymon: TY: Why would you visit her, just
to tell her you won't help...::slows down at the end, as though
he's realizing it himself::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::folds her arms around herself,
looking down:: Toby, I... ::stops, still not knowing what to say::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::walks more quickly, not looking
back at Becky::
Quantum Catz: BM: Toby, wait ::jogs to catch
up with him, reaching for his arm:: I'm sorry...I...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::with an edge to his voice::
We might've been able to help her.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::softly:: That's not the *point*...
YarnKittymon: TY: It is to *me.*
Quantum Catz: BM: You haven't lived with it as
long as i have ::looks down:: It's better this way...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::still not looking at Becky::
I'm sure it had something to do with kids.
Quantum Catz: BM: What?
YarnKittymon: TY: What happened. Christa only
gets that upset when it's about kids or Clayton, and Clayton's
not born yet in our time and dead in hers, so it sure wasn't him.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::winces, looking hurt:: Well,
we won't know until it happens will we?
YarnKittymon: TY: We *might've.*
Quantum Catz: BM: Well, so *what*? Do you think
i'm going to let you go around changing every bad thing that happens?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::turns away, angrily:: I guess
not.
Quantum Catz: BM: I helped you save Maeve the
first time, didn't i? She didn't even *want* us to change it this
time - what do you want me to do?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::looks back at Becky, coldly::
Hey, if something happens to me, don't go out of your way to help.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::stops walking, blinking back
tears:: You know, i'd *love* to be able to say, to hell with the
timeline, i'll save my friends everytime they need saved, i'll
stop all the bad things happening...but i *can't*
YarnKittymon: TY: ::takes another couple steps,
then stops too, his head bowed:: You didn't need to stop *me,*
though.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::looks down:: Letting you
do it wouldn't be all that much different from doing it myself
YarnKittymon: TY: ::looks back at Becky:: But
you wouldn't be pulling the trigger.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::sharply:: But Christa would've
provided the bullets and i'd've put the gun in your hand
YarnKittymon: TY: That's not true. I could've
made the bullets myself, if you'd just let Christa tell me how!
Quantum Catz: BM: ::rubs her temple and mutters::
I hate arguing about this - why can't you just accept that you
don't *get* to see the future?
YarnKittymon: TY: Kinda hard when I have a friend
who's there already, and a time machine for a girlfriend!
Quantum Catz: BM: ::mutters:: Well, this time
machine isn't making anymore trips *ever* and Christa's already
promised me she won't give you any details! ::starts to walk past
him::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::glares at Becky's back, then
gets back on his bike::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::starts to tremble and wraps
her arms around herself, blinking back tears::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::looks at Becky for just a
moment longer, then rides off back towards Marquis::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::when Toby's well ahead of
her, she just stops and sits down on the side of the path, resting
her head on her knees::
