Quantum Catz: KZ: ::walks up to the orphanage
where Becky works, seeing the kids running around in the garden
and looking rather confused. She heads for the door, although
she's no longer sure if her long gone friend, Ezra, still lives
there at all::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::is sitting on the ground,
intently focused on something before him, with a concentration
reminiscent of Ezra when he was at work; it's hard to see what
Toby's holding, but it seems to sparkle; there's a little boy
sitting next to him, sniffing and wiping his eyes, yet seeming
to be interested in Toby's work::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::smiles rather weakly as she
remembers the way Ezra used to look. She may not have loved him
like he wanted...but she had still loved him in some way; softly
to Toby:: Excuse me? I'm...i'm looking for Ezra Alden...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::very softly, not looking
up:: Just a minute. ::concentrates on what's before him for a
few more moments, then holds it up to the boy; it's a sparkling
glass bird, hanging from a string:: Is this better?
YarnKittymon: : ::the boy's eyes momentarily
light up, but he then frowns, saying:: The bill's too short.
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::almost laughs at the boy's
words, a smile on her face::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::lightly touches the bird's
glass beak, lengthening it noticably:: That better?
YarnKittymon: : ::the boy takes it and nods::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::smiles widely, tousling the
boy's hair:: You take better care of it next time, OK? Next time
I might not come running out to help.
YarnKittymon: : ::the child nods solemnly, and
walks off, cradling the bird, without thanking Toby::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::pauses in her games with
the other children to look over at Toby and the boy, smiling to
see that the boy seems much happier now::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::stands up, dusting the grass
off of his trousers, and looks at Kizzie:: I don't really know
anyone named Ezra...is he a kid here?
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::in the four years since Kizzie
was on the island, she still has a rather haunted look in her
eyes though her earthy brown hair now comes to just above her
shoulders and she seems to have less of a weight on her shoulders.
She sighs rather sadly when Toby replies to her question:: He
used to live here. I...i guess he must have moved on...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::frowns:: I'm sure he was
happy here, though, and I'll bet he's grown up well.
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::laughs weakly:: He wasn't
a child here - he...he used to own the house...he was an undertaker...
::she looks up at the building, rather reminiscently:: I used
to live here... ::as she thinks this, some of the flowers nearby,
seem to bend towards her, though Toby might not notice::
YarnKittymon: TY: Well, I'm sure someone here
would know how they got this house. Hey--::looks over towards
Becky, but quickly thinks better of it, and looks down quickly::
Any of the grown-ups here would probably know; I'm the only one
who doesn't work here.
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::glances over towards Becky,
who's kneeling down talking to one of the younger children, and
then looks back at Toby:: That was a nice thing you did for that
boy if you don't work here...who are these children? Is this a
school or...an orphanage or something?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::nods:: An orphanage, but
they teach the kids too. ::pauses:: Maybe your friend gave his
house to them.
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::sighs:: He might well have
- my sister said he talked to her about moving ::looks away::
Not that the people in this town would've appreciated it much...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::smiles slightly:: Well, I'll
bet the kids appreciate it. Never mind if they'd say it in so
many words.
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::murmurs:: I'm glad ::although
the grass around her feet vaguely seems to wilt::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::glances down at Kizzie's
feet, looking mildly surprised, though he doesn't comment:: Anyway,
I'm sure someone else here could tell you for sure. Maybe they'd
even know where he's gone.
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::almost looks like she's about
to cry:: It's okay...I should probably just go...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::cringes:: It's all right.
What's your name? I'll keep an eye out, see if I can track him
down. Or maybe...::pauses, glancing doubtfully at Becky, then::
At the least, I know a fella who can probably tell you where he
is. It's his talent, I mean.
Quantum Catz: KZ: I'm...Kizzie ::sighs:: Though
i doubt he really wants to see me again ::softly:: You keep looking
at that girl...would she know?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::puts his hands in his pockets;
quietly:: She might, or I'm sure she could find him. But I should
probably be getting back to Marqus. I'll see you later, OK?
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::uncertainly:: Oh...okay....
YarnKittymon: : ::about fifty yards from the
orphanage, at the edge of the forest that surrounds the town,
there's a very scared little girl, sobbing softly, standing so
that it seems like she's leaning face-first against a Scarlet
Oak tree about forty feet tall in a bit of a clearing--no one
can her her whimper, but Kizzie can probably sense the tree::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::suddenly pales, looking towards
the tree as she feels it's thoughts - as if it's been raped by
the girl's power: she starts to move towards it, unable to do
anything else::
Quantum Catz: ((raped might be a rather strong
word right enough ^^;; ))
YarnKittymon: TY: ::a little surprised:: Where
are you going? ::frowns, glancing at Becky:: None of the kids
are missing, right?
Quantum Catz: KZ: The tree...it's hurting...it's
crying out...
Quantum Catz: BM: ::glances at Kizzie and then
looks around:: April isn't here ::frowns and then teleports to
the girl::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::begins to walk rather quickly
towards the tree::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::glances around to make sure
there's some other adults to watch the kids, then follows Kizzie::
YarnKittymon: : ::the girl looks over at Becky,
tears streaming down her face; her arms are embedded into the
tree, past her elbows:: I didn't mean to...
Quantum Catz: BM: ::looks at the girl's arms
and then smiles weakly:: It's okay ::rubs her shoulder:: Toby's
here - you remember Toby, right? If you're stuck i'm sure he can
help you, though you really should try yourself - it's not the
end of the world, you need to calm down though, okay, honey? ::wipes
at the girl's tears with her other hand, trying to sound reasssuring::
YarnKittymon: : ::the girl whimpers, though she's
obviously trying hard to calm down:: It's my favorite tree.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::smiles:: It's a nice tree
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::appears in the clearing and
looks at the girl, attached to the tree, seeming upset; the tree's
branches wave towars her as if caught in a strong wind::
YarnKittymon: : ::the girl looks up at the branches,
whimpering softly:: Don't be mad...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::arrives on the scene several
moments later, looking at Kizzie, wide-eyed::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::moves over to the tree, looking
uncertain as she places her hand on its trunk, on the opposite
side from the girl:: It *hurts* - can't you do something? ::one
of the branches grazes Kizzie's shoulder and she jumps away uncertainly,
although not moving her hand from its trunk::
YarnKittymon: : ::the girl plants her feet and
pulls back from the tree with all her might, but her arms don't
give an inch; they're in so that it almost looks like they've
become a part of the tree::
Quantum Catz: BM:: ::frowns at Kizzie:: She's
just a child - give her a chance - and if she can't get out then
Toby'll help her
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::frowns at Toby, remembering
what he seemed to be able to do:: And what would you do to the
tree to get her out?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::comes a couple steps closer,
examining the girl's arms and where they meet the tree; softly::
I'd have to separate the tree from the girl, maybe melt some of
its bark and maybe its insides--::quickly::--but I'd fix it when
I was done!
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::looking upset:: And you'd
hurt it all the way through!
YarnKittymon: TY: ::is thinking that he'd likely
hurt April in the process as well, but doesn't voice it:: I don't
know if we'll have an option!
YarnKittymon: : ::the girl rests her forehead
against the tree; softly:: I didn't want it to get hurt...
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::closes her eyes for a moment,
looking nervous; then opens them and looks at the girl:: Look,
you did this, didn't you? Can't you get out of it?
YarnKittymon: : ::the girl looks back at Kizzie
with scared eyes:: I tried, but it's like we're stuck together.
::murmurs:: My brain feels weird.
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::almost sympathetically::
You're probably hearing its thoughts - they don't think like us...if
you become too merged you could get lost in it
Quantum Catz: BM: Then we have to get her out
then!
YarnKittymon: TY: ::nods, stepping forward and
putting a hand on the girl's arm:: Kizzie, I'm sorry. ::lightly
melts just the outer bark around the girl's arms::
YarnKittymon: : ::April screams when Toby starts
working::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::groans as well, and her fingers
grip into the bark so much that they almost seem to be merged
themselves; the tree's branches whip around in the air, all struggling
to reach Kizzie::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::squeezes the girl's shoulder,
trying to comfort her in some way::
YarnKittymon: : ::the girl's arms suddenly come
loose from the tree, leaving only the scars that Toby inflicted
in its bark, but Toby's hand is resting against the tree, and
his thoughts are suddenly clouded, so that he can't even move::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::reaches for Toby's arm when
the girl's free:: Toby? Are you okay?
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::the scars on the bark start
to heal, even around Toby's hand, and Kizzie drops to her knees,
stilltouching the tree::
YarnKittymon: : ::Becky gets the same feeling
as Toby has, and she can directly sense pure terror::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::weakly:: What's...happening...?
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::her teech clenched:: It's
not seen me in so long...it's using me...get away...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::can't speak or move; he's
just thinking that this is just like the lab, and suddenly, he's
worried for Becky, silently willing her to let go of him::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::stumbles forward, feeling
rather woozy, her hand reaching out and using the trunk to stop
herself from falling::
Quantum Catz: KZ: Please...! ::her lower arm
becomes streaked with brown as her hand merged with the tree and
she struggles to get away; the tree draining her to feed itself::
YarnKittymon: : ::April watches in horror, and
then runs towards Kizzie, trying to pull her away from the tree::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::the tree starts to grow around
both Becky and Toby's hands, growing through and up their arms
in a tendril-like way; only slowly does the growth up Kizzie's
arm start to go back down::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::tries to pull away, but he
can hardly move; he again silently tells Becky to get away::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::for a moment, Becky thinks
she hears Toby's voice in her mind, telling her to get away; she
tries to teleport, but suddenly feels that she can't be uprooted
or she'd die::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::finally gives into the feeling
of being rooted down, and finds it's an incredible relief to do
so; he closes his eyes, faintly feeling a breeze through his leaves::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::finally manages to pull away,
dropping back and away from the tree, although its nearer branches
still reach for her::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::drops to her knees, her arm
still stuck where it was, giving in herself to the feeling of
being rooted to where she is; this's easier anyway, she thinks
YarnKittymon: TY: ::slowly gathers his thoughts,
wondering if Becky's all right; he thinks he feels her somewhere::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::looks up at the tree, turning
her head to look at Toby and Becky:: It's never...it's never done
this before to anyone but mee....
YarnKittymon: : ::April looks at Kizzie; softly::
Maybe it was me. Maybe I could get them out.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::rests her head against the
tree and wonders if Toby's okay::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::tilts her head, uncertainly::
I...i thinki can hear them...they're mixed with the tree's thoughts...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::wordlessly thinking that
he's all right, then tries to send out the question of how Becky
is::
Quantum Catz: BM:::thinks that she's okay; although
one of the horrible dreams she's had in the past months leaps
to her mind, of Toby and Lu taunting her::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::instantly, his whole mind
seems to shudder; he's so sure he'd never do anything like that,
and the thought of it upsets Toby quite a bit::
Quantum Catz: KZ: We need to do something...or
they'll get as stuck as you would have... ::rubs her eyes:: But
it drained me so much...
YarnKittymon: : ::April looks back at Becky and
Toby, wide-eyed:: I don't know if I can.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::shudders as well, thinking
of how upset she felt when she found out what he had done, something
that she herself had been sure he'd never do::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::he faintly tries to hide
it, but he definitely feels terribly ashamed of himself, deeply
sad for Becky, and desperately wishing that he could somehow undo
what he's done::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::tears spring to her eyes
as she thinks of the children she met; remembering every word
they said to her::
Quantum Catz: KZ: :Try, please - they're upsetting
each other - it'll just make it easier for the tree's mind to
take over
YarnKittymon: TY: ::is so attuned to Becky's
thoughts, he feels like he's there with them, and he's so close
to Becky, she can feel the deep sorrow, mingled with a whole lot
of love, that's inside him, thinking of their lost children, and
losing the woman he loves as well::
YarnKittymon: : ::April cautiously approaches
the tree, gingerly touching it where it's wrapped around Becky
and Toby, not really trying anything yet::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::her feelings are a mixture
of love for Toby, pain at thinking he really did care for Lu when
she loved him so much, and guilt at leaving in the first place;
they all mix together and she struggles to hide them, her free
hand reaching into the ground to try and pull herself away::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::in his mind, he just draws
Becky to her, silently promising to never leave her again, to
take care of her forever, just asking her to forget the past and
trust in the future::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::the thought of Lu springs
to her head again, in a memory of the day she returned and she
and Lu argued::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::the memory is mixed with
Becky's own feelings of uncertainly and inadequacy::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::his thoughts seem more desperate,
as he tries to reassure Becky that he made a mistake, that the
only reason he ever came near Lu was because her apparent gentleness
and the way she cared for him reminded him, somewhere, of the
woman he missed::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::starts to cry, just wishing
that she hadn't left, but at the same time thinking of the arguments
they used to have and almost acusing Toby of the fact that they'll
only start again::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::thinks briefly of the children
that may never be, almost seeing them, and, breathing raggedly,
promises he'll find a way to work through it this time::
YarnKittymon: : ::April puts the palm of her
hand against some of the tree pressed around Becky, closing her
eyes and willing the two of them to separate::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::for them? or for me? Becky's
mind asks. We'll still always have the same problems; remembers
how upset she felt when she broke the photo of them in Toby's
room, like it was on omen::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::groans as the tree fights
against being hurt anymore and struggles to form Toby and Becky
as part of itself to stop the pain it feels, probably making them
feel even more rooted::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::though he doesn't mean to
let Becky know, he has no defenses by this point, so she sees
how he wanted nothing more than Lu to leave him, even when she
came to tell him she was pregnant--but that as the months went
by, the thought of the child they'd have caused him to grow to
develop some sort of affection for her--and how much closer would
he grow to Becky if they were married, since he already loves
her for being herself, not any children she might have?::
YarnKittymon: : ::April tries harder to free
Becky and Toby::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::her mind completely open,
Toby learns of the misery Becky slipped into without him and the
depression that led her to going back to someone's house and getting
so upset that the only person she could turn to was Fiona. When
she returned, all she had wanted was to have him back, whether
they had problems or not. All she had wanted was for things to
work with them::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::groans and then moves towards
the tree, reaching for it in the hope that if she tries to pull
it back with April, it will let Becky and Toby go::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::feels a bit upset at finding
out about James, though he's not sure why, and he knows it's not
fair to Becky to feel that *she's* betrayed *him*--more than anything,
he feels deeply sad for Becky, and wordlessly begs her to forgive
him, to try to let him make things better::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::remembers Jack telling her
she should give it a go if she still love Toby...and the thought
that came after that she wasn't sure she could ever look at Toby
without thinking of Lu...and all that had happened between them::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::instantly thinks Becky should
go back in time and keep him from meeting Lu--and just as instantly,
he knows that's completely wrong, that he did this to himself,
and he has to live with the consequences...though he's sorry Becky
has to suffer, and if she *did* do something to make things easier
for herself, he couldn't fault her::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::There you go, leaping in
with the time travel again, she thinks::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::thinks, I took it back and
I can't help what I think::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::the tree tries to drain energy
from Kizzie again but she fights back against it and Becky and
Toby maybe feel a bit less connected to it from her and April's
joint efforts::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::but you always blame me for
not doing what you think i should::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::thinks of her daughter's
power - of all the things she has to witness because of the effect
she and Toby have on the timeline::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::seeming rather desperate,
thinks they can just go back to the present, if that'll make things
better--he'll do anything, as long as Becky's with him::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::thinsk that even in the present
he'll still be able to argue that she should go back and fix things,
in fact even more so since neither of them know the future
Quantum Catz: ::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::promises not to ask her to
change things again, so quickly, Becky can tell he hasn't thought
about the consequences::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::wonders if he'd keep to that
promise if something happened to someone he cared about, or if
he'd just end up resenting her for doing nothing::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::inhales deeply, as he imagines
at least a dozen awful things that could happen to people he's
grown close to, seeing Maeve killed at least a few times; tears
come to his eyes, though he's ashamed of them::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::tears come to Becky's eyes
at the images Toby puts in her head, though they're not far from
some she's imagined herself; but she can't do anything, she's
so sure that changing anything that happens, even now, would only
give their daughter more images to suffer through a domino effect
of events::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::sees the pain Becky envisions
in their daughter, and mulls it over in his mind...and after quite
a bit of scattered thinking, he agrees to not ask her to change
anything else--though he wonders, isn't their mere presence changing
things that might have happened?::
YarnKittymon: : ::April murmurs:: It's not working,
is it?
Quantum Catz: BM: ::knows that and wonders if
their daughter's power isn't some sort of by proxy punishment...if
she ever does exist now, that is...but thinks that them just existing
and mildly effecting things is far better than her going back
in time all the time and actively changing anything she wanted::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::closes her eyes, trying to
concentrate:: It's drained me so much...it's so hard to make listen
- and they're distracting things as well with their thoughts
Quantum Catz: BM: ::guiltily thinks that she
doesn't want to leave her friends in the past::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::would just as soon stay in
the past as well--he promises again not to ask Becky to change
anything--he's definitely afraid, but he just as surely means
it, knowing full well he might be killing Maeve::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::doesn't really seem to believe
that he won't see it as some failing of her as a friend to whoever
suffers if she doesn't do anything; that was what hurt her the
most when they argued - that he seemed to imply she didn't care
what was happening just because she didn't want to change what
was happening::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::thinking, even if it's a
failing, he'll have it right along with her::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::wearily wonders why they
both see death as being so bad when neither believes it's the
end and thinks that suffering's only a part of life, a part of
what makes people who they are - would she or Toby have been the
same people without their suffering?
Quantum Catz: ::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::is touched by Becky's thoughts;
he'll try to think of it that way, but his faith's not strong
enough, and even if it was, he doesn't think he'll ever be able
to stand by and watch people he loves in pain without suffering
himself--the same way he feels when he sees how sad Becky is::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::thinks that there are different
ways to help people than to take the events, the memories, away
from them. More normals ways. Knows that no matter what she wishes,
she wouldn't want Lu to have never existed...or they would never
have reached this point and whether it was good or bad, it was
still a point in her life, still a part of her life::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::the thought comes to mind
that that's what God Himself does--how they're allowed to suffer
in the hopes good will come from it--and he knows that he's the
one who's awful, for trying to meddle with fate. Even so, he can't
be sorry for saving Maeve...though he tries to imagine the good
it might have done, maybe them still being back in New York::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::doesn't think he's awful;
loves him for how much he cares about his friends::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::knows Becky's trying her
best, and she's doing a better job than he'd do...and he cares
about her so much, he just wants to take her in his arms and protect
her from the world, from her own sadness::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::part of her wishes he could
do that too, but she's so afraid of it all falling apart again,
like it did before::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::faintly asks her to please
just take the chance::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::softly murmurs, though she's
focussing more on thinking it:: Please...you need to stop mixing
with the tree...you're making it harder for me - your thoughts
interupt its thoughts...
Quantum Catz: BM: ::remembers how happy she once
was, how she still has the ring he made for her the day they met,
hidden away in her drawer, and just wishes it could go back to
hat::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::tears come to his eyes again,
but he manages to speak, in a faint whisper:: We need to get free
of here...or we won't have a chance to get back to anything.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::hears his spoken words and
thinks, rather weakly, it's almost easier this way...i doubt anyone
who thought like a tree would ever jump off a pier to see how
alive they were::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::is rather startled when he
realizes what Becky's telling him, and he just wants to get closer
to her, to keep her from harm--but he somehow manages to speak--still
weakly, like he's having quite a bit of trouble disengaging from
the tree:: They should've had a guard on the pier, then...Becky,
please...
Quantum Catz: BM: ::her mind is flooded with
the feeling she had of drowning under that water and struggling
to breath, though she'd been so sure that she wasn't enough of
a person for it to kill her; and when she tries to break her thoughts
away, she just feels more like that, like somone's pulling her
mind even deeper down::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::closes his eyes, feeling
himself a bit like he's drowning as he dives back into the tree's
thoughts; he envisions himself underwater with Becky, trying to
grab her and drag her to the surface, determined that he's not
coming up without her::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::It's not drowning you, Kizzie
thinks - it's just trying not to be hurt::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::tries to teleport away like
she did four years ago but it doesn't work and, panicking, she
reaches out for Toby's mind::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::manages to force the tree
to loosen its grip a little, the tendrils around their hands withdrawing
slightly::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::pulls his hand back slowly,
keeping his mind open for Becky, reaching back, asking her to
please let him help her::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::the last thought she has
before she manages to pull her mind away from the tree is 'please
don't let me be hurt again'::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::looks at April:: Help me,
now - before they get caught up in its mind again
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::concentrates even harder
on making the tree pull back::
YarnKittymon: : ::the girl digs her fingers into
the tree's tendrils, trying to pull them away::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::starts to wriggle himself
free from the tree, looking over at Becky to see how she's faring::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::still has her free hand dug
into the ground and uses it to help pull herself away from the
tree, though she's blinking back tears::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::gets himself free, then goes
around to try to help Becky::
YarnKittymon: : ::April continues to try her
hardest::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::falls forward as the last
of the tendrils loosen their grip on her, though she teleports
away before Toby can touch her::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::Even when all the others
are free from its grip, Kizzie remains touching the tree, concentrating
on ensuring that its trunk is completely healed from their actions
before::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::stares at the place Becky
had been, numbly, half-wanting to chase after her, but completely
lacking the strength, and wondering if it'd do any good anyway,
or if she's just left again::
YarnKittymon: : ::April watches Kizzie; softly::
Is it OK?
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::nods, her eyes still closes::
I think it's fine now... ::slowly pulls her hands away::
YarnKittymon: : ::April turns to Toby:: What
about Miss Becky?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::still staring, he doesn't
answer::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::looks at Toby; uncertainly::
Are you okay? I'm sorry...it's my fault...it wouldn't have reacted
like this if i wasn't here to give it strength
YarnKittymon: TY: ::softly:: I'm OK. I just...I
wish I knew where she'd gone.
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::weakly:: You'd think she'd
be too exhausted to go anywhere after that...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::softly:: I hope so. I'm going
back to the orphanage; my bike's there. C'mon, April. Kizzie,
I'm sure you'd be welcome to stay and rest a bit.
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::softly:: I don't think i
could stay there...not anymore...not without Ezra...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::rather absently, as April
stands beside him:: Someone'll find him. ::starts walking back
towards the orphanage without another word::
Quantum Catz: KZ: ::glances back at the tree,
a sad smile entering her face at the memories it contained that
Becky and Toby were neither interested in nor able to understand;
murmurs:: I wish things didn't change so quickly ::then she heads
back to her old house with Toby and April::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::gets back to Marquis on his
bike a few hours later; he had to rest at the orphanage for a
bit, and the whole time he wasn't thinking much at all about Kizzie,
just Becky--now he's fairly exhausted from the relatively short
bike ride, but before even stopping at his own house he rides
to Becky's, knocking on the door, and leaning against the doorframe
as he does so::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::at first there isn't any
response and then he can hear the sound of someone moving to the
door. Becky opens it, looking uncertain, her eyes red from crying
and a string of prayer beads in her hand::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::still leaning against the
doorframe; softly:: Are you OK?
Quantum Catz: BM: ::softly:: Fine...sorry i left...i
just...i needed... ::sighs::
YarnKittymon: TY: I was worried--but I guess
you have an idea of how I felt...now that you've...you know...seen
so much of me...
Quantum Catz: BM: ::looks down; wincing:: You've
seen things i didn't think anyone else would ever know
YarnKittymon: TY: ::looks at Becky; softly::
I don't think I've ever felt anything so weird...and I hated to
feel how unhappy you were...but something about it all...it felt
sort of "right" to me. ::quickly:: That might be the
tree talking, though.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::still looking down, trembles
slightly:: I hated feeling you so unhappy...i don't think most
people ver get to be that close to each other though...
YarnKittymon: TY: Maybe...maybe most people couldn't
handle it. ::cringes slightly, suddenly remembering James, and
he starts to wonder if he's silly to think Becky could ever get
over Lu, when the thought of Becky with another man she never
even slept with hurts him; he leans more heavily against the doorframe::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::looks up:: Are you okay?
Do you want to sit down or...something?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::nods, walking inside and
settling himself down heavily on Becky's sofa, exhaling slowly::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::sits down on the chair, curling
her legs up underneath her; she doesn't look him in the eye, not
sure what to say::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::weakly forms himself a glass
of water, sipping from it; softly:: I guess there's nothing more
to say, is there?
Quantum Catz: BM: ::softly; avoiding the point::
I could've just got some water for you
YarnKittymon: TY: You must've been tired, though,
after teleporting.
Quantum Catz: BM: 'S maybe not quite so tiring
as cycling back though...
YarnKittymon: TY: It wasn't so bad. I just had...had
to get back to you.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::softly: What do you think?
Now that we're not...like that...and you know all this stuff about
me...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::looks at Becky with a tender
expression:: I love you, Becky, and you can't change that by throwing
some memories at me.
Quantum Catz: BM: I know but...they're my memories...
i know i told you about James but i never expected you to ever
know how i felt like that...
YarnKittymon: TY: I guess I wasn't...really able
to picture James, before. But why do you think I'd judge you just
because you were upset and depressed? Especially when I'm the
one who caused it?
Quantum Catz: BM: I don't...I didn't.. ::hesitates
and sighs:: I don't know...it's just...hard to cope with knowing
that you...know my thoughts like this...i gue i'm just scared...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::softly:: You saw deep into
me, too. What do you have to be scared of?
Quantum Catz: BM: ::rubs her eyes with her hand::
I don't know...i just...i hate feeling like this...i don't want
to feel like this again. I don't want things to get screwed up
again... ::laughs at her own insecurities:: You know when we first
started going out, i once had this thought that maybe you were
just going out with me because you knew you couldn't have Christa...
::shakes her head weakly, still not looking at him::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::smiling weakly, though he
looks rather sad:: That'd be the same as saying Libby only married
Jack because Rudy Valentino died. If Christa'd come to see me
the day before I met you...I don't think I would've gone after
her. ::softly:: And you went off to help her when she was in danger...
Quantum Catz: BM: ::shrugs:: She was in danger.
I didn't love you then but it was pretty obvious you loved her
YarnKittymon: TY: ::sighs:: Well, we'd just met.
And...when you rescued her... I didn't know it at the time, but
I started to fall in love with you right then.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::half looks up at him, still
not completely looking him in the eye:: For helping her? What
else was i meant to do? She was scratching your arm out and i
saw how worried you were
YarnKittymon: TY: I'd just come from being locked
up for years for--for showing my powers. I came from a place where
parents got killed for protecting their kids sometimes. And you
risked your life for someone you barely knew and someone you'd
never met. How couldn't I love you for that?
Quantum Catz: BM: ::softly:: Yeah well, unless
you get weird people like that Madison woman, there wasn't much
that could really kill me at the time and besides...Dominick trusted
you enough to leave you with me ::smirks:: And he still sees me
as his baby sister even now
YarnKittymon: TY: ::softly:: Are you ready to
let me keep my promise yet?
Quantum Catz: BM: ::finally looks him in the
eye and then just bursts into tears, climbing out of the chair
and moving over quickly to hug him, tightly::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::pulls Becky closer to him,
drawing her down onto the sofa, putting his cheek against hers::
I can't promise I'll always be perfect, but you're the only person
I want...I'd move heaven and earth to make this work.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::through her tears:: I just
don't want to lose you again - i promise i'll never leave, no
matter what happens...i won't go...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::softly, his voice shaking::
And I'll be yours forever, Becky. ::he puts a hand on her head,
feeling her hair, almost in disbelief::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::pulls back a bit to look
at him, lifting her hand to touch his face, her eyes all red::
Is this really happening?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::smiles weakly, though he
looks like he could cry:: I was about to ask the same thing, but
I didn't want to jinx it.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::laughs and then smiles lovingly
through her tears:: Dan's gonna hate it - you'll be right back
to distracting me from him
YarnKittymon: TY: ::smiles back, his potential
tears fading away into a gentle look of love:: He's growing up;
maybe he'll just be happy you're happy.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::hugs him tightly again; murmurs::
I was so afraid this would never happen...that we could never
get past it all
YarnKittymon: TY: ::softly, laying his head on
Becky's shoulder:: Me too. But let's not think about bad things
right now; we've had enough of those for our whole lives.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::softly:: I guess so... ::sounding
tired:: I love you, Toby...
YarnKittymon: TY: ::kisses Becky's cheek, then,
softly:: I love you too.
YarnKittymon: DN: ::comes into Becky's house
as usual when he's ready for a catnap after playing; he comes
in, not too quietly, and before he even gets through the door
he smells that Toby's been there; the fur on the back of his neck
rises up
YarnKittymon: as he glances around quickly::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::sits up, awake, when she
hears Daniel, though she's still in Toby's arms::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::is still asleep::
YarnKittymon: DN: ::stalks in the room, and then
springs at Toby, biting his leg::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::does wake up at that, yelling
and trying to kick his leg away from Daniel::
Quantum Catz: BM: Dan! No!
YarnKittymon: DN: ::backs away from Toby, releasing
his leg, but still staring daggers at him::
YarnKittymon: TY: ::tries his best to look calm,
slowly getting to his feet, though he cringes to put weight on
his injured leg:: I should let you two go...
Quantum Catz: BM: ::is rather torn between Dan
and Toby; hesitantly to Toby, her eyes still on the cat:: Are
you okay?
YarnKittymon: TY: ::nods quickly, though there's
definitely a couple holes in his gray pantleg, and the cloth around
the holes has turned dark; walks backwards towards the door::
I'll see you later.
YarnKittymon: DN: ::hisses at Toby::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::sharply:: Dan!
YarnKittymon: DN: ::looks at Becky, slightly
apologetically, though his ears are back:: I want a girlfriend
too.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::is mometarily confused, expecting
more some derogatory comment about Toby:: What?
YarnKittymon: DN: ::glares at Toby:: He's just
going to make you sad again anyway.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::winces, looking down; softly::
Everyone makes mistakes, Dan
YarnKittymon: TY: ::cringes as the blood trickling
down his leg tickles him a little; he looks at Becky for a moment,
then backs out of her house, his eyes still on the cat::
YarnKittymon: DN: ::his ears still swiveled back::
I don't even know why you like him.
Quantum Catz: BM: Because I...i guess you can't
really help who you love...he did save my life once Dan ::sighs::
You think you could at least appreciate him for that
YarnKittymon: DN: ::his tail twitches, and he
idly claws at the floor:: Sara doesn't love me either.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::is a bit glad to have the
subject changed, although she's also concerned for Daniel's feelings::
Do you like Sara? ::sits back down on the sofa, still feeling
tired::
YarnKittymon: DN: ::nods quickly:: Dougie and
Theo have girlfriends already, and they're in the same class as
me.
Quantum Catz: BM: Well...just because other people
have girlfriends...doesn't mean you have to have one...i didn't
have a boyfriend when i was your age...
YarnKittymon: DN: ::meows sadly:: But Sara's
the only other cat...::pauses, using the word Becky taught him::
Shuhuh in Marquis. I want her to like me.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::softly:: That's not a very
good reason to want to go out with someone...
YarnKittymon: DN: ::mrrs:: But I like her.
Quantum Catz: BM: Have you told her that you
like her?
YarnKittymon: DN: ::his tail twitches; quietly::
I said I wanted her to be my girlfriend.
Quantum Catz: BM: And what did she say?
YarnKittymon: DN: ::murmurs:: She didn't want
a boyfriend.
Quantum Catz: BM: Well...she's maybe just too
young for that sort of thing jsut now
YarnKittymon: DN: How come?
Quantum Catz: BM: You didn't want a girlfriend
last year, did you? She is younger than you, Dan
YarnKittymon: DN: ::tail twitches, looking a
little puzzled:: Oh.
Quantum Catz: BM: Maybe you just need to give
her some time..
YarnKittymon: DN: ::mrrs:: What about you and
Toby?
Quantum Catz: BM: ::hesitates:: What about me
and Toby?
YarnKittymon: DN: ::sounding a little frustrated::
I don't know. Why'd you have to let him come over?
Quantum Catz: BM: ::looks down:: We...we talked
and...we're going to start going out again...
YarnKittymon: DN: ::after a moment, seriously::
If he's mean to you again I'll go over and maul him for you.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::smiles weakly:: I think that's
a bit drastic...you already got his leg pretty well
YarnKittymon: DN: ::meows softly, then:: Well,
he can just fix it anyway.
Quantum Catz: BM: Well that'll hurt just as much
as the bite did unless he gets Isaac to do it
YarnKittymon: DN: ::starts licking his front
paw, silently::
Quantum Catz: BM: ::softly:: Violence isn't really
the best answer you know
YarnKittymon: DN: ::mrrs:: He kicked me back.
Quantum Catz: BM: You had your teeth in his leg...what
did you expect? ::although she doesn't sound annoyed, just tired::
YarnKittymon: DN: ::lays down on the floor; quietly::
Are you going to get married this time?
Quantum Catz: BM: I...I don't know...it's a bit
soon for that i guess
YarnKittymon: DN: Some of the kids say you'll
put me in the orphanage as soon as you have kids.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::suddenly looks up at Dan,
rather startled:: Of course i wouldn't do that - and i wouldn't
marry Toby unless you were happy with it too, you and i are a
package really, Toby understands that
YarnKittymon: DN: ::looks rather startled, too::
Really?
Quantum Catz: BM: ::is a bit upset that Daniel
would think otherwise:: Of course. Why didn't you tell me people
had been saying that?
YarnKittymon: DN: ::murmurs:: I didn't wanna
sound like a kitten.
Quantum Catz: BM: ::runs over and hugs Daniel::
Don't be silly...
YarnKittymon: DN: ::closes his eyes, purring
slightly; softly:: Do you think you'll be happy with Toby?
Quantum Catz: BM: ::murmurs:: I think so...i
hope so...
YarnKittymon: DN: ::rubs the top of his head
against Becky's face:: Don't let him be mean to you.
Quantum Catz: BM: He won't be ::smiles slightly::
Besides, i think you gave him a good enough warning about what
would happen if he was
YarnKittymon: DN: ::licks Becky's hand; quietly::
I'll try not to bite him again.
Quantum Catz: BM:::smiles gratefully:: Thank
you
